Luffy’s Gear 5 form, coincidentally also silver-haired, first appeared in One Piece chapter #1044 and in the anime episode #1071. Both episodes of the anime were so highly anticipated by fans that the volume of demand caused Crunchyroll’s servers to crash. In both cases, these forms were decades after their respective series began, and their success among fans proves how both franchises and their protagonists have transcended time and genre to become true pop culture icons.
