Julia Garner has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.
Silver Surfer in the MCU
According to Deadline, Julia Garner will play Shala-Bal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character first appeared in the 1968 comic Silver Surfer #1, a creation of Stan Lee and John Buscema. Shala-Bal is introduced as the love interest of Norrin Rad’s first Silver Surfer, though she later takes up the mantle of silver superhero in other stories.
The information describes Shala-Bal as a version of the Silver Surfer, so this will be an adaptation of her time as a superhero.
Julia Garner is best known for her role as Ruth Langmore on the show Ozark, for which she won three Emmys. Also, actress Anna Sorokin in the Netflix miniseries Who Is Anna? She played, for which she became another nominee.
Although the star has already brought the character to life in Marvel Comics, I think it would be risky to introduce his version of the Silver Surfer instead of using Norrin Rad. Granted, Marvel may be saving him for later use, but I think they had a chance to present him as Galactus’ herald. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see him in a Fantastic Four movie, he’ll probably make an appearance but not yet at his full power.
