Disney is renewing Marvel TV for a new MCU series on streaming

At a recent upfront presentation at The Walt Disney Company in New York, the news that many Marvel fans have been waiting for was confirmed: Marvel Television is back, albeit with some big changes. The once independent brand under the leadership of Jeph Loeb and the control of Isaac Perlmutter is back, but with a new structure.

The return of Marvel television

Marvel Television was originally responsible for series such as Agents of SHIELD, The Defenders on Netflix, and others such as Cloak and Dagger, Runaways, and MODOK, but in In 2019, Disney decided to freeze everything related to Marvel at the behest of Kevin Feige. It led to the dissolution of Marvel Television. The restrictions imposed by Marvel Studios have limited access to many characters on Marvel television, creating conflicts and production conflicts that in some cases have damaged the reputation of the MCU, such as the Inhumans.

The return of Marvel Television does not necessarily mean the return of the former team. The new strategy seeks to improve the quality of content by clearly separating production responsibilities between films and series. As evidenced by the creative restructuring of Daredevil: Reborn, Marvel Studios has faced challenges in developing a television series that focuses solely on the movies, while Marvel Television develops series for Disney+.

A new strategy

The objective of this restructuring is clear: prioritize quality over quantity. According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the company plans to reduce the number of sequels to two per year and the number of movies per year to two or at most three. This decision responds to the need to avoid overloading production teams and improve the overall quality of MCU products.

“We’re working hard on what that path will be,” Iger said. “I feel good about the program. It’s something I’ve decided to spend a lot of time on. I have a lot of faith in the team and the intellectual qualities we’re exploring.”

With the return of Marvel Television, Disney is looking to streamline its interiors. This means that each production area has specific heads, which allows producers to focus only on their own projects. What if Marvel Animation were…? and X-Men ’97, while Marvel Television exclusively manages the TV series for the Disney platform.

Next steps

Although all the details have not been revealed yet, this move is seen as a positive step towards reviving the MCU on the small screen. The aim is to free producers from the burden of managing both films and series, which has affected the quality of recent projects such as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion.

“In retrospect, we’re going to do two TV series a year instead of four, and we’re going to reduce our film output to two or at most three a year,” Iger explained.

This renewed focus should allow Marvel Studios and Marvel Television to regain public trust and improve awareness of their products. Action Breakup promises to deliver thoughtful content that matches the expectations of fans.

The return of Marvel Television under the leadership of Disney marks the beginning of a new era for the MCU series. With a clear focus on quality and a more efficient distribution of resources, Disney seeks to win back fans and deliver products that meet their expectations. We look forward to the next announcements and the evolution of this strategy, which will no doubt provide great surprises and improvements in the Marvel television universe.
