Many fans assumed that the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron project had been canceled, but apparently it could still be completed.

After a long time without hearing anything about Rogue Squadron, Patty Jenkins has provided a new update on her Star Wars project.

Will Rogue Squadron ever work?

Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Rogue Squadron in December 2020, confirming that the film would be released in 2023, but that ultimately did not happen. On the other hand, the film has not received any update, which makes fans of the galaxy saga think that the project has been canceled. However, Patty Jenkins, the director behind Rogue Squadron, has finally spoken about the film.

The filmmaker appeared on the Talking Pictures podcast and talked about the Star Wars project there. Jenkins says he still owes Lucasfilm a draft of the script and that one of the reasons Rogue Squadron hasn’t made much progress in development is the 2023 writers’ strike.

“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3 and started working on that, we said, ‘Maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3, so we made a deal to make that happen.’ “We broke the deal as soon as it started, so now I owe the Star Wars draft. We’ll see what happens there.”

Jenkins also mentioned the challenge Disney faces in Star Wars right now, as it is developing new films in the saga, and still has to work on other projects that were announced much earlier.

“They’ve got a tough job ahead of them: ‘What’s your first film?’ They’ve got other directors doing it, but now I’m back with Rogue Squadron. We’ll see what happens. We’ve got to get to a point where we’re both really happy.”

Jenkins seems very optimistic about the future of the franchise, so the project may actually end up being made. It’s amazing how Rogue Squadron went from being a dead product to a regular going forward.
