Zack Snyder Shares His Enthusiasm for New Directions for the James Gunn-led DCU, Shows Special Interest in Superman Treatment

Since the creation of the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel in 2013, Zack Snyder has been an integral part of the evolution of these iconic characters. However, despite his first involvement, the director admitted that he was excited about the new direction of the DCU recently rebooted by James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

Zack Snyder and the vision of the DCU

Snyder shared his thoughts on the upcoming change in an interview with CBR while promoting Rebel Moon – Part Two. “I’m clear, if the characters are treated with respect and in a way that’s true to the legend, I’m in. “I’m glad…we’ll see Superman soon, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Snyder’s tenure at the DCU was not without controversy, most notably during his creative conflict with Warner Bros. “I didn’t see it as a job for me to be an engineer for DC.” “I wasn’t interested in creating DC entertainment that would sell toys and be fun for everyone,” Snyder explained. The focus was on his passion for characters like Batman and Superman rather than meeting corporate expectations.

A troubled relationship with Warner Bros. and the end of an era

Marked by the end of the DCEU, Orm, in a post-credits scene of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, makes it clear that it’s time for a renewal, in a surprising way. Under the new management of DC Studios, Henry Cavill was decided to move forward without being the Man of Steel and change the direction of the universe, keeping only actors from projects such as Peacemaker and Suicide Squad, both projects previously influenced by Gunn.

Despite being away from the DCU, Snyder received words of support from Gunn, who thanked him for supporting creative decisions about the future of the universe. “Zach’s a great guy. He seems really excited about the big universe he’s building,” Gunn said.

The evolution of Superman

Over the years, Superman has been played by different actors and each of them brought their own personality to the character. From Christopher Reeve’s version of idealism and hope to Henry Cavill’s Zack Snyder-led version of the dark and complex Kryptonian hero. This transition to a more human and vulnerable Superman was controversial but was accepted by a significant portion of the public. Now, James Gunn is expected to deliver another new creation that focuses more on the balance between his leadership, alien heritage and earthly upbringing.

With a change in direction at DC Studios, fans are eager to see how classic narratives will be handled and what new twists will come. Gunn has demonstrated his ability to tell complex and unique stories in works such as Guardians of the Galaxy. The fan community hopes that Superman will get a treatment that honors his rich and multifaceted legacy, balancing traditional mythology with a modern vision that can further explore his moral dilemmas and internal battles.

Can Snyder be returned?

While many fans still hold out hope that Snyder could complete the Justice League trilogy, perhaps with an animated film or comic book, the odds seem remote. However, the door is not completely closed in the world where the unexpected can happen.

The transition of the DCU is a testament to the constant evolution of entertainment and how creative visions diverge and come together in new ways. As Snyder looks forward to new projects, the world looks forward to seeing how the DCU’s new guardians shape its future. Paying attention to the dignity and honor of the characters, the new era promises to revive the saga with freshness and authenticity.
