Rumors suggest that Sony is still working on a film starring Spider-Man’s most feared villains, the Sinister Six
Despite the lukewarm box office reception for some of its latest episodes, Sony Pictures appears to have not abandoned its plans to bring the Sinister Six to the big screen. This project has been in the air for years and, despite having had to face several obstacles, nearby sources indicate that the studio remains determined to bring one of the to life most iconic villain groups from the Spider-Man comics.
Drew Goddard’s attempt and Garfield’s return
The director Drew Goddard came very close to making the Sinister Six movie a reality when it was tied to the now-defunct franchise. The Extraordinary Spider-Manwith Andrew Garfield. Goddard even went so far as to do so complete a screenplay which, according to rumors, brought together similar villains Rhino, Harry Osborn’s Green Goblin, the Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter. The plot proposed to confront them with Garfield’s Spider-Man, in a journey that would ultimately lead to the redemption of these characters.
Garfield himself shared his enthusiasm for the project in an interview with Collider in 2021:
“I don’t know how close it was to completion, but it was exciting. I love Drew, he’s a unique creative and with a vision out of the ordinary. We had some very interesting meetings and it would have been great to see it become a reality.”
Despite the initial enthusiasm, the project was shelved, and with the arrival of Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), many assumed that the dream of seeing the Sinister Six on the big screen had come to an end.
The rebirth of the Sinister Six in the SSU
