Sean Levy reveals why the new Deadpool movie is more than just a sequel

The next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine promises to be a show unlike anything seen before. Contrary to what many might expect, this movie is not “Deadpool 3”, but rather a star-studded collaboration that puts two of Marvel’s most popular characters at the center of the action. Sean Levy, the director behind this epic production, shared his thoughts in a recent interview with ScreenRant.

A meeting of the titans

Levy expressed his daily excitement about working with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. “It was a great opportunity to be able to weave this story, even though it’s the third Deadpool movie, at the core, but it’s something completely different,” Levy said. This film does not seek to repeat the previous episodes, but instead creates a new narrative centered on the friendship and escape of these two characters.

“My main aim has always been to please the public,” says the director. The film promises not only thrilling action scenes and character comedy but also an unforgettable movie experience. According to Levy, the interaction between Deadpool and Wolverine is the engine that drives the film, guaranteed entertainment for fans.

Unexpected return

The story takes a dramatic turn when Wade Wilson is pulled from his seemingly quiet life by TVA, sending Deadpool into new territory. In the year Hugh Jackman, who left the role of Wolverine after the hit movie Logan in 2017, has been convinced by Ryan Reynolds to join the new adventure, which fans of both characters have been eagerly waiting for.

In addition to the main stars, the cast includes Emma Corrine, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Ughams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapicic, Rob Delaney and Matthew Macfadyen. The franchise’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, return to the fray with Zeb Wells, from the first draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.

An explosive combination on the big screen

The undeniable charm of Ryan Reynolds and the strength of Hugh Jackman are the foundation of the success of their respective franchises. Now, by merging these worlds with Deadpool and Wolverine, the chemistry between the two heroes is expected to not only excite fans of their previous films, but also herald a new chapter in the superhero genre. This collaboration is not only a return for Jackman, but an opportunity to explore new dynamics and challenges in a new and exciting context.

Screenwriters Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, known for skillfully weaving action and humor, worked diligently to ensure that the script was not only faithful to the characters, but also introduced innovative plot elements. Incorporating unexpected twists and clever dialogue, the creative team aims to deliver a unique experience that stays true to the spirit of both the series and transcends the usual genre tropes.
