Danid creates his masterpiece in Apprentice de Cuervo and ECC Ediciones brings us the first volume

Comics are a unique medium for telling stories, unlike books, comics can be told through pictures. In fact, there are artists who are talented enough to tell stories through illustration alone; This is not an easy task and it is easy to use speech to explain everything. Granted, this isn’t very common in “mainstream” comics, where artists don’t have as much freedom or try to reach a wider audience. But when an artist is given complete freedom, a Dane Cuervo apprentice works as impressively as he can emerge.

Once upon a time there was a crow in the forest

The synopsis reads: “In a remote forest lies a unique town, full of secrets. Protected and bounded by an electrified fence, its inhabitants are ruled by a clear hierarchy: unquestioned leadership belongs to the god-man who assists the spirit deer scribe. The rest of the neighbors have the status of subjects. And all disguised as animals, they form a disturbing secret society with a horrific past and no future. The main character, Cuervo, feels the need to travel beyond the forest to discover the secrets of the community.

This synopsis is the best way to explain the work.Danied’s work is so complex and open to interpretation that readers are deliberately drawn to different conclusions. There is no excessive explanation, the reader will not miss by reporting every detail that happens in the plot. Although adding more details makes the job easier, it greatly reduces the reader’s interpretation.

We are experiencing a very hierarchical society and each person has a series of very specific tasks. Through his work, the author criticizes the current society’s clear distribution, where the bottom has fixed roles, while the top enjoy the results of the work and monopolize all the resources. Society seems to accept it with little grumbling, perhaps not considering the unfairness of the situation, but thankfully, the curiosity of the new and the mysterious is created among the people and Cuervo seems to be waking up.

This may be the objective opinion of the editor, because as mentioned earlier, there is more than one reading of the story. It is undeniably a comic where drawing and script are one. Danid makes fascinating art, without any dialogue, the journey is made by the artist’s amazing illustrations, which combine nature and technology, where one ends and the other begins, we don’t know where. In addition, the pictures create the impression that there is always a cat in the bag, from the design of the characters and the design of the environment, various glitches and technological effects, which add color to the humor. .

Dandy Cuervo’s Apprentice may not be a graphic novel for everyone due to its narrative and is a work that requires repeated readings to fully understand. But it’s worth it as an alternative work that doesn’t treat the reader like a child and has so much depth that it forces the reader to think they’re reading and watching.

Perhaps the negative aspect of this work is found at the end where more questions are raised. Let’s hope that ECC will not take too long to publish the second part of this work, because the readers who are engaged in this comic will suffer a lot because they are not sure and want to know more about Cuervo and his people.

ECC Ediciones edition of Apprendiz de Cuervo.

As with most things in life, what matters in comedy is the content, but no one can deny that a good version catches the eye and sells. The cover of the Cuervo Apprentice is beautiful in the form of motherboard circuits and pictures that naturally fit in with the theme of the work. With material that looks like fabric and leather, we are facing a classy edition. In addition, the volume includes additional materials such as design sketches, locations and storyboards. With a total of 112 pages, this work is sold for € 25.00.

Danide Cuervo’s Apprentice is a work that inspires deep reflection in the reader. A comic that tells a story full of amazing visual art without any dialogue. Here the artist creates his most personal and grand work that will not leave any reader indifferent. A highly recommended work for those looking for an alternative graphic novel to the mainstream.

With Coach Crow: Book 1, Danide has inaugurated his most ambitious project to date: a trilogy as a complete author, combining fantasy, fairy tale and science fiction with the violence of imagination and the graphic resources put to use, a story that invites us to reflect on the world around us.
