7 Goku vs Jiren
Like many before it, the battle between Goku and Jiren during the Dragon Ball Super Tournament forced Goku to face an opponent he couldn’t easily defeat, while also unlocking a level of power he’d never touched before. Jiren is one of the most terrifyingly powerful enemies the Z-Fighters have ever faced, and since they had to defeat him to save their entire universe (more or less), the stakes couldn’t be higher around this jaw-dropper. – Throwing a fight.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87, after Goku and Vegeta unleash Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, respectively, in their fight against the seemingly unstoppable Gas, Frieza appears and kills Gas with one attack. Frieza then transforms into Black Frieza, a new transformation that makes Goku and Vegeta look weak.

In that movie (which is Broly’s canonical first appearance in the current Dragon Ball continuity), Broly takes on both Goku and Vegeta, the two of them in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, and he’s absolutely demolishing them. It wasn’t until Goku and Vegeta joined Gogeta (which was the first canonical moment) that they were able to properly fight Broly.

3 Gohan vs Cell
Gohan’s battle with Cell not only introduced fans to the Super Saiyan 2 transformation – as Gohan was the first Saiyan to reach that level – but also proved that someone other than Goku could take down the main villain. This battle was one for the ages, as it represented the official passing of the torch from Goku to Gohan in terms of ultimate Dragon Ball power, something that would not have been fully realized until Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This is arguably the most famous, most influential, and most epic battle in all of Dragon Ball Legends. Goku faces Frieza on Planet Namek in Dragon Ball Z Frieza Saga. At the time of publication, this storyline successfully did the following: introduce fans to Super Saiyans, reveal the origin of the Saiyan race at the beginning of DBZ, and portray Goku not only as Earth’s hero, but as a Saiyan who avenged all of his species by eliminating the evil that controlled and killed them.
Goku vs Frieza is the most important fight in Dragon Ball history, and no amount of increased power scaling or improved anime graphics will ever change that.
