Throughout each era of the Dragon Ball canon, there are always a number of epic battles taking place. Since this series is about planet-traveling conquerors, world-renowned martial artists, and true gods trained in battle by angels, it should come as no surprise that there is no shortage of fight scenes throughout. However, not all conflicts are measured equally, as some are more unreliable than others.

The true measure of the Eastern battle in Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball isn’t just the level of power the fighters themselves bring to the ring, but also the broader backstory and impact each fight has on fans. widely. And so, here are the top 10 Dragon Ball fights, ranked.

10 Goku vs King Piccolo

This fight is perhaps the first true exhibition of Goku’s strength in the Dragon Ball canon. During the classic Dragon Ball King Piccolo saga, the demonic evil King Piccolo has successfully taken over the world, throwing humanity into an age of chaos. Before his reign can truly take hold, however, Goku challenges the Demon King, and gains the strength to kill him and save the world.

Although Piccolo was later reborn as a hero (as Piccolo fans know and love him today), he was originally a world-ending villain and Goku’s archenemy at the time.

9 Goku vs Vegeta

Just as King Piccolo is about to destroy the world, so does Vegeta when he comes to Earth in Dragon Ball Z Saiyan Saga (specifically Saiyan Saga Part 2: Vegeta Saga). So, naturally, Goku had to step in and save the day. However, while the battle against King Piccolo was the first time Goku reached a truly unparalleled level of power, his battle with Vegeta proved that there are fighters he cannot defeat.

Vegeta successfully defeats Goku in his first fight, making it both a newly introduced character to Vegeta and an important character in the series, and learning for Goku as a main character that he is no match for him. He might have thought.

8 Goku vs Lord Beerus

In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction, comes to Earth in search of the Super Saiyan God. Led by the Eternal Dragon Shenron, Goku unlocks this legendary transformation and channels it to battle Lord Beerus, saving the world.

Not only was this one of the most visually stunning battles on this list, it also introduced Goku and Vegeta to an entirely new path of power that has changed the face of Dragon Ball legends ever since – making this battle canonically influential. It was pretty awesome.

7 Goku vs Jiren

Like many before it, the battle between Goku and Jiren during the Dragon Ball Super Tournament forced Goku to face an opponent he couldn’t easily defeat, while also unlocking a level of power he’d never touched before. Jiren is one of the most terrifyingly powerful enemies the Z-Fighters have ever faced, and since they had to defeat him to save their entire universe (more or less), the stakes couldn’t be higher around this jaw-dropper. – Throwing a fight.

In the fight against Jiren, Goku first unleashed his now iconic Ultra Instinct, a battle that had an impact beyond just this story arc.

6 Beast Gohan vs Cell Max

If Goku’s fight with Lord Beerus is one of the most visually stunning battles, this one is undoubtedly the most visually stunning. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroine, the fight between Gohan and Cell Max is one of the most recognizable for many reasons. Not only does it determine the fate of the world, but it also puts Gohan in a main character role for the first time since the beginning of DBZ. Additionally, he gave Gohan his long-awaited God-level transformation into Beast Gohan.

After this fight, Gohan went from being a fairly disappointing and boring member of the Z-Fighters in the Super Era to a fighter stronger than Goku and Vegeta.

5 Goku & Vegeta vs Black Frieza

The significance of this battle is not in its visual appeal or heroic triumph, but in the exact opposite of both points. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87, after Goku and Vegeta unleash Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, respectively, in their fight against the seemingly unstoppable Gas, Frieza appears and kills Gas with one attack. Frieza then transforms into Black Frieza, a new transformation that makes Goku and Vegeta look weak.

In fact, Black Frieza literally took out Goku and Vegeta in one hit – not each of them, but together. A potentially insane level of power from angels and gods demands the collective attention of fans, making this a fight for the Dragon Ball history books (albeit a surprisingly short one).

4 Gogeta vs Broly

Before he could beat Vegeta and Goku once more, Frieza recruited the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly to take out his Saiyan enemies in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly. In that movie (which is Broly’s canonical first appearance in the current Dragon Ball continuity), Broly takes on both Goku and Vegeta, the two of them in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, and he’s absolutely demolishing them. It wasn’t until Goku and Vegeta joined Gogeta (which was the first canonical moment) that they were able to properly fight Broly.

This battle brings the most popular non-canon aspects of Dragon Ball to the core lore, while also proving to be one of the most jaw-dropping battles of all time.

3 Gohan vs Cell

Gohan’s battle with Cell not only introduced fans to the Super Saiyan 2 transformation – as Gohan was the first Saiyan to reach that level – but also proved that someone other than Goku could take down the main villain. This battle was one for the ages, as it represented the official passing of the torch from Goku to Gohan in terms of ultimate Dragon Ball power, something that would not have been fully realized until Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Confirming the legacy of this particular war.

Although everything that this war was founded on was successfully destroyed in the Majin Buu saga (with Goku being the only person who could quickly defeat the ‘final boss’ again), the remnants of its impact can be felt to this day. Dragon Ball Super Era.

2 Goku vs Majin Vegeta

There are few fights more witnessing than Goku vs Majin Vegeta – or more accurately, few fights worse than Goku vs Majin Vegeta. While the impact of this one isn’t as big as the others, and the exhibitions of power aren’t really anything fans have seen before, the stunning visuals and heartbreaking dialogue of this fight is something a DBZ fan won’t soon forget. Majin Vegeta gave DBZ fans back the original ‘Villainous Vegeta’ in truly gruesome fashion, with Goku literally fighting over his head. The images of good and evil are clear, and in many ways, this fight is their first, albeit infinitely more intense.

Regardless of what this battle may or may not represent, Goku and Vegeta going head-to-head will almost always be the best show a Dragon Ball fan will ever see, and this is the worst of the many fights.

1 Goku vs Frieza

This is arguably the most famous, most influential, and most epic battle in all of Dragon Ball Legends. Goku faces Frieza on Planet Namek in Dragon Ball Z Frieza Saga. At the time of publication, this storyline successfully did the following: introduce fans to Super Saiyans, reveal the origin of the Saiyan race at the beginning of DBZ, and portray Goku not only as Earth’s hero, but as a Saiyan who avenged all of his species by eliminating the evil that controlled and killed them.

Goku vs Frieza is the most important fight in Dragon Ball history, and no amount of increased power scaling or improved anime graphics will ever change that.

Each of these battles is a visual spectacle that has had a profound impact on the world around them, some simply more impactful than others. After taking those factors into consideration, it’s safe to say that these are the top 10 ranked Dragon Ball fights.
