Zoro wielded multiple swords during his time with the Straw Hats in Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus One Piece. Since a piece was developed by the ancient gunsmith in the world, swords and knives are the most popular weapons. Protagonists such as Dracula’s Mihawk, the world’s strongest sword, the red-haired Shanks and, of course, Zoro, also chose the sword as their primary weapon. However, Zoro uses his sword differently than most.

Zoro wields three katanas at once, one in each hand and one in his mouth. Zoro’s somewhat comical style of three swords requires the former pirate hunter to get through a lot of swords. The most powerful swords of a piece are named swords, each with their own rating that rates how strong they are. Zoro finds several of them throughout the series, making them difficult to keep track of. Here is a list of all the swords that the Straw Hat Sword has.

Wado Ichimonji

Part 2 – Now

Zorro’s first named sword is already of high quality. Wado Ichimonji is one of the 21 swords of the Great Class, which is just short of the highest level sword. Enma was created by the legendary Shimozuki Kozaburo, and passed down to his descendants, including Kuina. Quina’s father took Zoro in as a disciple as a child, and Zoro eventually became Quina’s friend and rival. After Kuina died touching the young Zoro deeply, Wado Ichimonji asked from his master.

Since then Zoro Wano has been using Ichimonji in one piece. His sharpness and durability proves itself in his fight against Mihawk. After taking Mihawk without Haki’s attack to strengthen the katanas, only Wado Ichimonji remains intact, showing the sword’s strength. Because of its power and importance to Zoro’s character, it is still one of the three swords used by Zoro at the beginning of One Piece’s Final Saga.

Sandai Kitetsu

Section 49 – Now

Zoro Sadai holding the Kitetsu in one piece.

After losing two of his katanas in a battle with Mihawk, he went shopping for more when the Straw Hat stopped in Logtown. When Zoro finds a shop that sells katanas, Sandai picks the kit out of a barrel, not knowing the seriousness of it. The Sandai Kititsu is a level sword created by Kozuki Sukiyaki that also contains a very powerful curse that the shopkeeper initially refused to sell him. However, this didn’t bother Zoro, so he decided to test whether his luck or the sword’s curse was stronger. He threw his sword into the air, then held out his arm to see if it would cut.

Although this is definitely one of Zoro’s best moments and the challenge convinces the shopkeeper to sell it to him, the Sandai Kitsu is unfortunately one of the weakest swords Zoro has ever used, only a grade sword. Despite this, Zoro is one of the swords that made it into the One Piece Final Saga.

Yubashiri

Section 49 – Section 309

After witnessing Zoro’s work, the owner of the katana shop decides to give Zoro his family heirloom for free. That family heirloom is the Yubashiri, a master level sword, making it more powerful than the Sandai Kitsu, but still weaker than the other blades Zoro has used. Unfortunately, during Buster’s Call on Enies Lobby in the One Piece Best arc, he captures Shuu Yubashiri, a rust-fruit-eating sea captain, and drags him to the rust pile. After that, the only thing left is a small blade and a hip. After Zoro finally finds another, more powerful sword, he places it at the tomb of the Rambar Bandits on the Thriller’s bark.

Shusui

Section 362 – Section 931

Ryuma Blocking Zoro Attack - Thriller Shell - One Piece.

In the thriller Bark, Zoro discovers the zombie of Ryuma, a famous samurai of the Wano country who reveals that he is Zoro’s ancestor. They clash swords, and Ryuma recognizes Zoro as a worthy swordsman. Because of this, he turned his powerful response to Shusui. Like Wado Ichimonji, Shusui is also a sword of great rank. It is also a black sword like Mihawk Yoru, which means it is combined with Haki, increasing its strength. This strength allows him to turn and use high destructive power with his blade. Since it was owned by Ryuma, it was considered a national treasure of Wano country. So when Zoro finally visits Wano, he returns him to Ryuma’s grave and replaces him with the much more powerful Enma.

Enema

Section 956 – Now

Zoro and Enema in one piece anime

After Zoro returns Shusu to Ryuma’s grave, Hiyori gives Enma the katana she received from her father, Kozuki Oden. Although it is not yet a black sword, it is a sword of great stature like Wado Ichimonji and Shusui. However, once Enma’s blade turns black, it is said that it can increase in rank and become a high-ranking sword like Mihawk Yoru and Whitebeard Murakumogiri. Enma also has the unique ability to absorb weapon haki, which often results in more attacks than intended.

With the help of Kozuki Oden, he was able to cut through Kaido’s invulnerable defenses and leave Scar behind. He threatened the powerful Yonko a second time by bringing out the same attack at the hands of Zoro. While the sword becomes harder and harder to wield during the raid on Onigashima, Zoro finally gains control of it during his special fight with the King. This is the last and most powerful of Zoro’s current swords going into the One Piece Final Saga.

While these five swords are the only named blades that Zoro uses in the series, each proves just how powerful the Straw Hat Sword Destroyer is. Some swords such as Enma would be impossible for even a slightly skilled fighter to master, requiring a strong mastery of Haki. Of course, Zoro will likely receive another sword with a powerful name before the end of the series, possibly replacing the Sandai Kititsu. After all, Zoro didn’t use any high level swords like his ultimate rival and mentor, Mihawk. The eponymous swords that Zoro later finds in One Piece are sure to become new weapons that take his skills to the next level, just as the swords listed here were when he first found them.
