Superman Director James Gunn has high hopes for David Corenswet in the lead role in Man of Steel. DC Studios co-CEO believes Corenswet’s appearance in the upcoming reboot will be “blow people up“.
Speaking at New York Comic-Con, Gunn dwelt on Corenswet’s performance as the Last Son of Krypton in Superman would exceed everyone’s expectations. He also claimed that Rachel Brosnahan’s portrayal of Lois Lane would make people “die for her” after seeing her. “He is the movie star everyone dreams he could be.. And I don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent, dramatically and comedically, he’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with… He’s an incredible actor, and Rachel Brosnahan, people are going to die for her too,” Gunn said.

Corenswet was cast as Superman in June last year, after learning about it during filming. Twists. The Philadelphia native first made a name for himself on Netflix, starring in series such as House of Cards, The politician And Hollywood. Superman will mark the most important role on his cinema CV, with his villainous portrayal in Twists showing off his abilities and range on the big screen.

Superman will be the first film in the DCU
Dubbed the “workplace origin story” and the DCU’s first big screen installment, Superman chronicles Clark Kent’s early life at the Daily Planet as he gradually reconciles his Kryptonian heritage, encountering several allies and enemies along the way. Corenswet stars in Superman alongside Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), María Gabriela de Faría (Angela Spica/The Engineer), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner/ Green Lantern), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific) and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl). The film also features an appearance by Will Reeve, the son of the legendary Superman star Christopher Reeve.
Superman will be the second project released as part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, after Creature Commandos. The film is currently in post-production, with Gunn assuring fans that no reshoots will be necessary.
Superman releases in theaters on July 11, 2025.
