An unexpected mix between Disney and Marvel is used to celebrate the anniversary of Donald Duck and Wolverine
Marvel and Disney revealed a surprise that few expected: “What if Donald Duck was Wolverine?” When the joke started. Unveiled at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy, the first-of-its-kind project celebrates the 90th anniversary of Donald Duck and the 50th anniversary of Wolverine, bringing together two seemingly disparate universes.
The genesis of the idea of courage
Behind this concept, the Italian creators Luca Barberi and Giada Perisinotto bring to life this fantastic crossover based on the rich history of “Old Man Logan”. The comic features covers from popular artists such as Ron Lim, Peach Momoko, and Phil Noto, creating a unique feel for the release.
At the heart of this story is Donald, transformed into a version of Wolverine, immersed in an epic adventure that promises to be hilariously hilarious. After being turned into a heroic wilderness by the evil Pete’s Skull, the story takes us back to the near future where Duckburg has fallen into chaos. In this desolate environment, only “old Donald Duck,” now retired and more interested in sleep and his grandma’s apple pie, can handle it.
The plot takes a turn when Mickey-Hawkeye and Goofy-Hulk show up at Donald’s door, asking for his help. Despite his initial reluctance, it may be enough to visit his old friends and emotionally return to the glory days. Can Donald, armed with claws, put aside his peaceful life to save the world?
A creative duo with a vision
Luca Barbieri shared his enthusiasm for the project by highlighting the similarities between Donald Duck and Wolverine: both are characters with strong character and unmissable opportunities, but never lose heart in the face of adversity. “Once we focused on that point, writing the story became easier and more fun,” Barbieri explains. Giada Perisinotto expressed her joy in adapting Wolverine’s physical attributes to Donald, “It was so much fun and now I do it all the time!”
Not only does this release celebrate two major milestones in the history of both characters, but Marvel says there are more surprises on the horizon. “Marvel & Disney: What if…? “Become Donald Wolverine #1” is not only an homage to these characters, but a bold attempt to blend nostalgia with creativity to keep the comic book universe a place for creative exploration and fan enjoyment.
