Spider-Man 3’s return to theaters has presented some alternate designs for Venom to be used in the film.

After the unexpected return of “Spider-Man 3” to the cinemas, one aspect of the film again attracted attention: the concept of Venom, which represents a radical change of the character, so serious that it makes him unrecognizable. This makes us wonder, what would the movie be like with this version of Venom?

Finding a different symbiote

It was back in 2007 that we first saw Peter Parker in an alien suit that would soon bring out his dark side. Although this subplot was somewhat hastily constructed, it wasn’t until recently that producer Avi Arad’s influence on integrating Venom was revealed due to the character’s commercial potential.

In this new issue of Remy’s third installment, Maguire is dressed in black, as opposed to the usual red and blue, while the symbiote remains very faithful to the comic, albeit smaller than its paper counterpart. This version of Venom continues to generate divided opinions among fans.

An unknown view

The concept art, the work of designers Constantinos Sekiris and Ige Kreisor, shows a completely different approach, perhaps conceived as an exploration of the film and not as a serious idea. This art shows that at one point attention was paid to bringing the symbiote to life through practical effects, a fascinating technique that has been unfolding over the years, though visual effects were ultimately chosen to create the villain’s unique jawline.

The film’s director, Raimi, shared his thoughts on not working with Eddie Brooke in a third installment in 2022. His disconnect with the characters is notable and he admits that he has nothing to do with Poison, as he did with other characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

A deep look

Venom, an alien entity known as a symbiote, first entered the Marvel Comics universe in 2011. Fascination with his dual nature and symbiotic relationship with his human hosts is fertile ground for multiple narratives and adaptations, each exploring different aspects of his character.

Comparatively, the symbiote provides a striking contrast to other villains from the Spider-Man universe, such as the Green Goblin. While characters like Norman Osborn are driven by ambition and personal problems, Venom represents a physical and moral challenge for Peter Parker, forcing him to face not only an external enemy, but his own fears and temptations. This complexity has ensured that Venom remains a pivotal character in the Spider-Man mythos, generating equal parts debate and fascination among fans.

What could have been.

Despite the creative differences, it makes us wonder how a single design decision that never existed in a version of the character could profoundly affect the perception of such an iconic character. As fans tune in to this third installment of Theatrical, a fascinating glimpse into the past invites us to imagine an alternate universe where Venom could be a completely different character.

Spider-Man 3’s revival in theaters not only reminds us of a chapter in the wall-crawler’s saga, but also opens the door to a surprising “what could have been” in the Spider-Man universe, further fueling the legend. This is a mysterious and complex character.
