Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep, because First Freddy Krueger Movie Released in 4K Ultra HDThe release of the special Steelbook comes 40 years after the film first terrified audiences in 1984.
Directed by Wes Craven and starring Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, The Night Claws was first released in theaters in 1984, spawning what would become one of the most popular franchises in the horror genre. The film has been given a new 4K restoration for the release of the Ultimate Collector’s Edition, which includes a Steelbook with new key art that’s packed with fun bonus features, such as a double-sided poster, art cards, and a booklet. The 4K disc includes both the original theatrical version of The Night Claws with the uncut version.

The film is notable for many reasons, but one of them is that it launched the career of Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp, whose very first role in the film was as a victim of the Springwood Killer. Beloved scream queen Heather Langenkamp also stars as Nancy Thompson, a teenager hoping to end Freddy’s reign of terror by confronting him in the dream world. The film also stars John Saxon, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, Lin Shaye, and Ronee Blakley.
Freddy Krueger pursues his victims in their dreams
The intriguing concept of The Night Claws helped the film stand out from other horror films of its time. It tells the story of teenagers targeted by the spirit of Freddy Krueger, a child murderer who had been killed many years earlier by the vengeful parents of his victims. Seeking revenge after being burned alive, Freddy targets the children of his killers by attacking them in their dreams. Of course, getting rid of Freddy is no easy task, and the horror would eventually continue in a plethora of sequels (with a Friday the 13th (crossover film).
