100% Marvel HC review. X-Force by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle 2

The culmination of Chris Yost and Craig Kyle’s tenure in charge of the X-Force team comes a new volume in the 100% Marvel line published by Panini Comics.

Panini Comics brings us the conclusion to the ranking of X-Force, the mutant team among readers’ favorites (though perhaps not number one). A few volumes close out a story by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle that brings us a dose of action and scares like we haven’t seen before. The second volume will arrive under the title 100% Marvel HC. X-Force by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle 2.

X-23, escape as much as you can

In the first story arc here, titled Unforgotten, we’ll be reintroducing X-23 as a main character, dear to those responsible for this series, as their most successful creation. Young Laura Kinney is taken hostage to the foundation she was created from and escaped from some time ago.

Now her father’s man, Wolverine (along with a special black ops team) uses all means necessary (which includes several liters of blood, as well as many screams of agony) to get her out of this nightmare again. In the end, Laura herself has to do most of the work, completing her liberation with a cathartic fight in the rain.

In the graphics department we have Mike Choi, who replaced the original artist of the series (who will return in the next story arc) with a very similar style to him. Previous, though sometimes leaving out overly static figures…

Necrosha

In the second arc we will have Selene as the main villain, a psychic vampire created by Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema in the early eighties. She will be with Ellie Bard, who we first saw at the beginning of this level. He is a former soldier of the Roman Empire immortalized by Selene and recently became a member of the anti-mutant terrorist group the Purifiers.

Here, Bard’s role focuses on using his special abilities to resurrect Genosha (at the hands of Cassandra Nova, early in Grant Morrison’s time with the X-Men). Zombies gives the title of this adventure. Our aggressive cast will have to face old acquaintances here, providing some very interesting matches.

This script excuse will be enough for the artist Clayton Crain to shine in the most powerful scenes in the voice, and even if he continues to fall asleep leaving the darkest pages, the truth is that he marked some moments to remember here. .

Sex and violence

The title of the third arc included here, which closes this stage, could not be more descriptive. Here we see Logan and Domino having a good time in two of the couple’s chosen ways: squirming in bed like a hypervitaminosis bunny and slicing limbs off members (pardon the pun).

Unique to this arc is the presence of Italian artist Gabrielle Del Otto, who created Yost and Kyle’s farewell scene for the series. It’s a shame that this illustrator doesn’t appear beyond the inner pages and that his work is limited to making covers (God should be called where he belongs)…

Before you finish the volume, we get an interesting story written by the famous Robert Kirkman, which is still a joke, but it is very interesting to read. Great volume and a great way to finish a level like this.

Published by Panini Comics in hardcover, the volume contains 408 color pages with a page size of 17 x 26 cm. and the US edition #17 to #25 of the regular series of the same name, the first annual issue, the three issues of X-Force Sex and Violence, X-Necrosha and X-Necrosha: The Gathering, the first covers of the issues included in the set in addition to an introduction by Ivan Noda Diaz and Ultimate gallery with optional covers. It has a recommended retail price of €48 and goes on sale in December 2023.

The conclusion of one of the best stages by the dynamic covert operations team. In the wake of the so-called “Messiah War,” a new threat arose. Vampire Selene unleashes her greatest plan in ages: she resurrects millions of dead mutants on Genosha and turns them on the X-Men.

In addition, the writers of X-Force and the artist of Secret Wars: Wolverine and Domino have the sexiest and bloodiest comics of the day … but they insist that the team of assassins will not enjoy them. Or maybe yes.

Authors: Christopher Yost, Clayton Crain, Gabriele Del Otto, Jason Pearson, Mike Choi, Ibrahim Roberson, Craig Kyle, and Robert Kirkman.
