100% Marvel HC review. Captain Marvel: The Monica Rambeau Saga

From comedy to drama

In the year Created in Marvel Comics in the early 1980s by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. (after Jim Starlin killed off Mar-Vel in one of those timeless episodes), the Captain Marvel movie was released in theaters around the world until 2019. There, Monica was nothing more than Maria Rambeau’s daughter, she reappears as an adult as a field agent in Vandavision (previously played by Teyonah Paris) and later we see her again, already with the space forces, in Marvels.

At UCM Monica is not one of the main characters Franchise is currently relying on, but her future remains to be seen. However, he has more than four decades of stories behind him in the vignettes, which means that he has gone through enough stages to spend several series of stories, being a member of the Avengers (becoming their leader at some point) and the Ultimates, and accumulating at least four different names in his life.

Captain Marvel in the future

When Monica appeared on the masthead of the original Spider-Man, there was no one holding the title of Captain Marvel, and it was a title that could not be left empty. Back in the days of Marvel Comics, they were used to always being on the social front, so it surprised a few people that the character carrying this title was a black cop from New Orleans.

This volume covers, in an excellent way overall, the evolution and major events of his work that have characterized his character over the last two decades of the last century. We see his first appearance in a comic hand drawn by John Romita and his son, where the former continues to marvel and the latter gets his start in the superhero business.

Despite Romita’s art, Monica’s first appearance is hardly the most attractive uniform, although this is an aspect of the character that we’ve seen reflected over the years (albeit with minor changes). But as we get closer to this era, the quality of the parts included here has gradually decreased due to the beauty of the nineties.

A good collection of authors

Aside from the stories, this volume can be seen as a collection of authors who have hinted at the future of this character in some way. In addition to the famous and already mentioned Romita and the current Roger Stern, here we see David Michelinie, Dwayne McDuffy (perhaps responsible for the bad moments of his voice) and Sal Buscema, who is older than his brother John Buscema. , among many other names.

The most valuable thing in sound is the nature of composition. This is a great opportunity to get to know his character for anyone who wants to get to know his story. The worst? Well, without a doubt, some of the issues involved are low quality, especially as we approach the end of the volume. But even those numbers are still Marvel Comics history, no matter what…
