The following contains major spoilers of Your friends and neighbors Season 1, episode 5, “This tourist has balls”, now streaming on Apple TV +.
Your friends and neighbors It is just more twisted every week, and season 1, episode 5, “This Tourist has balls” is the embodiment. The creator of the Jonathan Tropper series has built a world where everything is supposed to be perfect – then continues to find ways to make matters worse. At least Tropper and his writers do not jump on the plot.
“This tourist has bullets” finally answers the question in which the dead body Andrew “Coop” Cooper found itself next to it. The revelation is relatively brief, but it is still satisfactory. And that said something that the information that Apple TV + viewers have waited all season is in fact one of the least dramatic things that happen in this chaotic episode.
Your friends and neighbors finally answer the biggest question of the show
Viewers now know who is dead-when then happens?
THE Your friends and neighbors The first suspended the coop carrot tripping on a corpse (literally) and having to face the benefits. Four episodes later, Tropper and his team reveal themselves to reveal who is the victim: it is Paul Levitt, the ex-husband of Coop in quite, the love interest of Samantha “Sam” Levitt. This revelation seems a little pedestrian, because Paul is at best a tangential character, mainly relevant for the story because he is the ex of Sam. But in practice, it is about as perfect as the writing staff could obtain it. Paul has already been clearly established as a character who deserves to be hated – so viewers are not sorry to see him go and they can understand why someone would like him to be dead.
Nor is he a character big enough to kill him has a major negative effect on the series. Of course, it could have been more exciting if the victim was a main character like the former best friend of Coop, Nick Brandes, who opens this episode by drawing an infopublicity for the smart toilets he connected. But any shock value created by a choice like this would be prevailing over the series by losing a major player and all the possibilities of history that would accompany them. This is particularly true in Your friends and neighborswhere the characters enter and leave so deliberately from the life of the other. Killing a regular in a series could collapse half of the show.
Instead, viewers can say “good storage” to Paul, but there is enough drama caused by his death that viewers are still worried about coop. And as evidenced by everything that happens before this revelation, there are many reasons to worry about coop. Your friends and neighbors Season 1, episode 5 proves that the character is a car wreck whose audience cannot look away.

Your friends and neighbors take a detour powered by drugs
Some elements of the show start to wear
“This tourist has bullets” could have been accompanied by an anti-drug PSA attached to it, because drugs play a major role in two of the stories of the episode. Coop’s intrigue implies him and Elena stealing a painting from Liechtenstein, replacing it with a false counterpart, then planning to sell it to an original art merchant Christian. However, Christian subsequently invites them to a nightclub to “celebrate” – which means alcohol and everyone who makes cocaine lines. Coop later finds Christian trying to push himself on Elena and intervenes … Only so that a rabid Elena turns against him, because his assaulting Christian (and his pepper spraying him) means that they are no longer paid for the flight. It is an intrigue that moves so quickly that the public’s head could turn as much as that of Coop.
Coop (narration): higher risk, higher yield. Or maybe I was starting to like it.
The confrontation between Coop and Elena outside the club essentially states the point of Your friends and neighbors in its entirety. He has just seen a woman in difficulty, went to help and does not understand why she is now angry with him. But Elena reveals that she was desperate for money. She ostensibly says to coop that her children will never be hungry and that the problems he complains are those for whom other people would kill. She is absolutely right – and this is the node on which the whole series rests. This show concerns people obsessed with money, reputation and popularity, when all these things are ephemeral and distracting of what matters most. Coop’s emotional arch has always been painfully clear: it must realize it. But on the basis of episode 5, it will take him for a very long time to get there.
Drugs are also relevant for what is happening with Coop’s son, Hunter, who is almost expelled from private school when his classmates share his Adderall. It is the weakest intrigue of the episode, because Your friends and neighbors fired in a drama territory for cliché adolescents. Hunter is a teenager in a bad mood falling with the bad crowd. The public has seen it so many times before. The scene in which Hunter and his classmates are caught are also an example of how the spectacle falls almost in love with itself. Some scenes take place with too much construction, often with unnecessary music, viewers must therefore spend an additional 30 seconds of visual exhibition before the start of the action.

How Barney’s script illustrates the point of your friends and neighbors
Hoon Lee does his best in the relatively little scenes
The most moving part of Your friends and neighbors Season 1, episode 5 actually has nothing to do with Coop or any type of mystery. This implies that Barney and Grace are visited by Grace’s parents and the emotional pressure that puts Barney Sous. It would be very easy to reject the character of Hoon Lee as comic relief, because he gives laughter in other episodes and serves as a reliable best friend of Coop. And it would also be easy for this intrigue of sub -intrigue to fall into the hole of the intrigue “Guy does not like his parents-in-law”, because Barney does not really like Grace’s parents. But it all seems much more than that.
To the difficulties with the costs of renovating the house that Grace refuses to stop – even when the price goes up – Barney finds itself under surveillance of its parents -in -law. He does not even know what they say about him, because they say it in Korean, but he knows that it is not good (viewers know that it is the disapproval of the way in which he managed the renovations). Things happen to a head when Grace’s mother cuts her off a check and comments on how he would be better to work for Grace’s father. One of the last scenes in the episode is a upset barney standing in the middle of the construction site, pouring alcohol and then turning on control.
Like the dark comedy, this act of challenge provokes an even greater fire that it must rush – but despite the laughter, the point is made. There is always pressure on people who live in this world to maintain their “standard” lifestyle, regardless of the cost, monetary or emotionally. However, it is so easy to send it all up in smoke. Your friends and neighbors Season 1, episode 5 is badly funny and has enough twists and turns to keep the viewers excited, but it is also the most poignant episode to date.
