Wonder Woman’s Amazing New Scene King Tom And Daniele Samperè It is presented in a volume published by ECC Ediciones in which we also find Belén Ortega
Maybe the story of Wonder Woman it is not full of remembered and great stories like that of Batman the Supermanbut fortunately it is a character with which the right authors have been able to create great works. This is the case of Tom King, Daniel Sampere And Take Moreywho together have started a phase with the character’s regular series that aims to be one of the best. ECC Editions now he sends us a volume that collects the first narrative arc of this new era, entitled outlaw.
Trinity, the new Wonder Woman
Those readers who are not faithful to current events DC Comics You will have a big surprise as soon as you start reading this volume. We find two figures on a beach, Batman and Superman. We soon realize that the action is set in the future and that we are not even seeing Clark Kent no to The World of Bruce Waynebut they are his children Jon Kent And Damian Wayne who wear their clothes.
The fact that they are inside Paradise Island It can already give us an idea of who they are waiting for, but no, it is not like that. Princess Diana. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Marston Prince (a tribute to William Moulton Marston?), Diana’s daughter, is revealed to us as the current Wonder Woman, a girl raised as a sister to Bruce and Jon, whose charisma and presence have nothing to envy those of these two.
The three have gathered to face a series of trials (pain, skill and honor) that will lead us to someone known as the Sovereigna descendant of a royal family who will act as the hateful villain of the story and who will have the task of narrating what happened in our present with Diana and her war against the United States…
No thank you
In this first arc of his new ongoing series, King tackles a variety of topics, the most obvious of which is toxic masculinity and the damage it does not only to women but also to men. But here we also have politics and, of course, an analysis of the main character of the story, breaking him down into parts to understand why and how he works.
Diana will be presented to us as a goddess who walks among men and women. Her superiority is such that the relationship she establishes with other characters, whether divine or mortal, whether friend or enemy, is always clearly unbalanced. That aspect that distances her from humanity is compared with such positive qualities (honor, compassion, love) that together transform the character into an incarnate ideal.
And this is especially evident when she is dealing with those who try to stop her in her mission, those who oppose her actions for justice. Violence will never be your first response. When someone tries to convince Diana to surrender, to give in, to obey… the answer will always be “No, thank you”.
The plot begins when an Amazon from Diana’s past ends the lives of a group of men in a bar for reasons that are not very clear. This avalanche grows until it reaches the action of the United States government, which declares the Amazons residing in the country illegal immigrants. At the end of this first arc there will still be many answers to answer, but they are more than enough to enjoy the narration of a King in great shape, who shines both with his powerful narrative voice and when he uses resources known to his fans, such as the narration in parallel actions.
The consecration of Daniele Sampere
Sampere is an artist who has long established himself as one of the brightest of DC Comics, probably starting from his collaborations with Italian:but it was certainly this work that definitively established him as one of the greatest artists of American comics today. His delicate and detailed lines leave us with truly spectacular moments of action, but it is his sober narrative that really makes this story work perfectly. And we must not forget Morey’s excellent work in color, one that never fails.
We also find at the end of the volume a very funny children’s story that tells the youth of Jon, Damian and Lizzie who grow up together, and on this occasion it is the magnificent Belen Ortega that accompanies King. This story earned its authors a nomination for the Eisner this year, which is already a pretty good cover letter.
In short, this volume is probably the best that can be found at this time in the current DC Comics continuity. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Wonder Woman fan or not, the quality of this phase is currently far above that type of affiliation. We can only hope that with this team-up the scene will come to an end without the hateful editorial interference that could cause a lot of damage to a series like this.
ECC Editions present this Volume in paperback format. The volume contains 208 color pages and includes the translation of the American edition of issue 800 of the first volume of the Regular Persona series, as well as the first six issues of the second volume. It should be noted that the volume has a couple of pages with defects, with double inks, although this should not be an impediment to the enjoyment of a great work such as this. The suggested retail price is €25 and went on sale in July 2024.
