In an interview with Variety, Statham explained why he hasn’t appeared in Marvel or DC movies, stating that he’s more interested in traditional action movies. Below we share his opinion on the topic.
“I don’t have much appetite for clothes, just capes and tights. I love old school movies from the 80s. I was inspired by people like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. And before those guys, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood. I couldn’t imagine one of those guys wearing caps and masks and running around on a wire.”
“Cinema is like music. Some people like country and western, others like heavy metal. I’m attracted to a little more grounded action.
Whether you agree with the actor or not, the truth is that he has expressed himself with respect and has not given a hint to challenge that genre. Also, according to Statham, everyone should respect the tastes of others.
