The director and producer of the animated series, “What if…?”, commented in an interview that the Star Wars universe could officially reach the Marvel universe in the next chapters.

In the Marvel multiverse, anything seems possible. But what happens when the boundaries blur with another galaxy, perhaps Star Wars? of ‘what if…?’ Director and executive producer Brian Andrews gives us a glimpse into the universe in which this happened.

Can you imagine Iron Man flying alongside the X-Wing fleet? It could have been real. In an exclusive interview with MovieTV, Andrews discussed the ‘What if…?’ That would merge the MCU with the Star Wars universe. Story editor Matthew Chauncey offered this ‘absolutely possible’ crossover, but Disney and Marvel Studios decided against going with it.

Factors and lost opportunities

Like Andrews, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige refuses to join certain universes. I think Kevin really doesn’t want to cross certain streams. But we came up with an idea… we had a Star Wars/Marvel crossover,” Andrews recalled. Although the idea is a love letter to the old-school space saga, the implications of this kind of crossover seem huge.

It is not the first time the two worlds have collided. In the year After the release of ‘Star Wars’ in 1977, Marvel Comics published a six-issue adaptation, then an unlimited series until 1986. Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, references to the George Lucas saga have been frequent in the MCU.

The secret remained unknown

Despite Disney’s reluctance, Andrews wrote the TEE Warrior Easter Egg ‘What if… T-Challa became Star-Lord?’ He was able to include it in the section. But the studio avoided references to other IPs like Alien and Predator.

As the second season wraps up, the recently confirmed third promises new and familiar faces to continue exploring the multiverse. The watchman continues to be our guide on this journey.

The journey of Star Wars and the MCU: two giants of cinema

Since its inception in 1977, Star Wars has been an unprecedented cultural phenomenon. The original trilogy created by George Lucas not only revolutionized the film industry with special effects and storytelling, but also established an extended universe with books, series, video games and more. With the prequel trilogy and the sequel trilogy under Disney in the early 2000s, this universe has been a pillar of science fiction cinema.

On the other hand, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) marked the beginning of the era of interconnected blockbusters that began with “Iron Man” in 2008. Under the leadership of Kevin Feige, the MCU not only adapted popular characters like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, but also introduced lesser-known heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy, bringing them to world fame. With its Phase 4, the MCU has opened up endless narrative possibilities and explored diversity further.

Both worlds have had a huge impact on popular culture. Star Wars, with its rich mythology and enduring legacy, and the MCU, with its focus on story continuity and character development, have changed the way franchise films are made and consumed. It can be seen how the influence of Star Wars has influenced generations of filmmakers, but the MCU has shown that a well-functioning cinematic universe can be extremely successful both critically and at the box office.

Despite the limited interaction between the two universes, it remains a topic of interest for fans. Under both of Disney’s leadership, the possibility of crossover, however remote, has always been a topic of conversation. The ‘what if…?’ Mixing these two worlds represents a dream for many fans, although for now, it seems to remain in the imagination.
