Venom has said goodbye, but Tom Hardy proves there’s still plenty to see in Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
On the eve of the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy not only promises to be an explosive conclusion to the trilogy, but also hints at the future of Sony’s universe without Spider-Man, a list that has created a lot of speculation and theories among fans.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Tom Hardy shared his excitement for what will be the final Venom solo film, revealing the project’s progress and changes. “I’m really excited about this movie because we’ve hit a big milestone. Kelly [Marcel] And I worked with Tom Rothman Sanford [Panitch] And his team at Sony for 7-8 years. We started with Eddie Brock and nobody knew what we were going to do. Then, on the second film, we had the opportunity to write, direct and assemble a great team, and that was huge! “It was a great academic university.”
The shadow of Spider-Man and the future of SSU
The actor did not hide that the absence of Spider-Man is now a constant point of comparison for the symbiote under the command of Kevin Feige at Marvel. “People were going to judge us, you know? The Marvel Universe under Feige’s management is doing well. Spider-Man has moved into Feige’s camp at Marvel. But we have one in Sony! It’s important to me and Kelly to do everything we can to take advantage of that opportunity. Now, on the third one, Kelly is directing, writing, and I’m fully involved every step of the way.
What does Hardy mean when he says ‘we have one’? The statement left many confused. Some believe it could represent the introduction of Peter Parker’s version of Andrew Garfield in the SSU. As for The Last Dance, Hardy revealed that the production received significant creative support to push the story to its limits. “We’ve had a lot of creative support on this third film. It’s a much bigger piece and there’s more love, not that it wasn’t in the previous ones. We’ve been able to incorporate more of our ideas and I’m excited to see how they’re received.”

Since its inception, the Spider-Verse, known as the SSU, has sought to establish its own identity away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Venom and its sequel Venom: Live Carnage, Sony attempted to explore narrative and thematic boundaries, distinguishing itself from traditional superhero films with a dark and mature approach. In addition to Symbiote, SSU plans to expand with projects like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, which promise to delve into complex characters with morally ambiguous motivations.
Expecting more of a classic character like Spider-Man under some version of Tom Holland or Andrew Garfield will leave fans skeptical. This strategy can not only enrich SSU, but also give new life to these characters, exploring angles that have not yet been seen in film adaptations.
