A new original graphic novel aimed at young adults and middle grade audiences featuring the Transformers has been announced by Skybound. Transformers: The Worst Robot Ever: Meet Ballpoint will be the first book in a new graphic novel series from writer Brian “Smitty” Smith and artist Marz Jr.
Skybound’s request for the novel outlines the challenges that Ballpoint the Decepticon will face in the graphic novel. “The Decepticons are known for being evil… but Ballpoint is truly the worst—the biggest failure of all. After the last attempt to defeat the Autobots goes horribly wrong, he is kicked out of the Decepticons, for good! Will Ballpoint be able to prove his worth by defeating the Autobots all by himself? Or will he continue to fail and discover that there is more to being the ‘best’ than meets the eye?” Transformers: The Worst Robot Ever: Meet Ballpoint arrives in comic book stores on July 9, 2025 and will be available in bookstores and on digital platforms on July 22, 2025.

Ballpoint’s story will be published by the young adult imprint, Skybound Comet. Skybound Press Release In announcing the new graphic novel, the publisher revealed that the story is the first in a new series of original graphic novels and is a “core element” of its overall partnership with toy company Hasbro. Other collaborations between the two brands have included the Energon Universe comics (including Rivals of the Void, Transformers And GI Joe) as well as the ongoing Skybound project Transformers And GI Joe comics.
