In recent years, the Pokémon franchise has grown bigger and bolder with new creature designs and its latest entry, Scarlet and purple is no exception. From the Loyal Three (Ogidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti) to simple yet charming designs like Brambleghast, the new Pokémon are beloved by fans of all ages. However, one type of Pokémon hasn’t gotten much love from Gamefreak in recent entries, as the Fossil has been overlooked.

Fossil Pokémon originated in the first installment of the Pokémon series and have been a mainstay of the series up until Pokémon Sword and Shieldbecause the input rarely skipped entries. With Scarlet and purpleThe typing is gone, as there are no Fossil-type Pokémon in the game. Despite this, Fossil remains one of the most intriguing Pokémon types and there are many that fans should give a second chance to.

Pokémon types are essential for trainers to battle effectively, but some types are represented in Pokémon species far more than others.

Many Pokémon often have discrete Stage 1 forms, and Armaldo is one such Pokémon. Armaldo’s first stage is Anorith, a cute but weak insect with wings. When Armaldo evolves, not much of the previous evolution is seen in its design, except for the few feather-like objects on its neck and the red markings on its head.

First appearing in Generation III, Armaldo is a Rock/Bug-type Pokémon that stands 5 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds.While this Pokémon looks more like a dinosaur than other Fossil Pokémon, it is meant to be reminiscent of ancient flying insects and their massive size. While Armaldo may not be as iconic as other Fossil Pokémon, it stands out from Bug-type Pokémon due to its simple, yet unique design.

Kabutops is an old Pokémon design that still holds up.

Kabutops is one of those 3 Fossil Pokémon, and its simple yet elegant design stands out.

Kabutops evolves from Kabuto’s base form, which closely resembles a real-life creature known as a horseshoe crab. Although the evolution removes any resemblance to that animal, It more than compensates with its elegant arm blades.which are used to deadly effect in battle. Kabutops may not be as dynamic as other Pokémon, but there’s no doubt its design is iconic.

The medieval-style design of the Bastiodon is extremely creative

Pokémon designs are extremely varied, and it is very rare for any Pokémon to look exactly the same. This is especially true for early Fossil Pokémon, as Bastiodon is one of the most unique designs from Generation IV. While later designs are more aesthetically pleasing (e.g. Aegislash), Bastiodon’s design still holds up.

Bastiodon, the Shield Pokémon, evolves from Shieldon, a much smaller form that somewhat resembles a Triceratops, but with a shield on its face instead of a horn. Bastiodon gets the best of both worlds, as the shield on his face is equipped with blades for defenseWhile this Pokémon may not be the most popular, it makes a great addition to any Pokémon trainer’s collection.

Many Fossil Pokémon don’t feature bright colors in their designs, as they are often based on simplistic dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brachiosaurus. While Aurorus is based on the latter, he is anything but boring, as his design is one of the most colorful of the Fossil Pokémon.

Aurorus evolves from Amaura, a smaller, but equally colorful base form. The evolved form is one of the largest Fossil Pokémon, because he is 8’10” tall and weighs almost 500 poundsIts size only adds to its regal nature, as every part of this Fossil Pokémon is covered in vibrant blues, purples, and yellows, making the creature stand out from the rest of its Fossil comrades.

Tirtouga is a perfect base form with mediocre evolution.

Pokémon is no stranger to iconic turtle designs. From Squirtle to Turtwig, turtles have always played an important role in the Pokémon franchise.and they continue to do so to this day. While Tirtouga is less well-known than its starter Pokémon counterparts, it deserves just as much praise.

Tirtouga is one of the few Fossil Pokémon that becomes worse when it evolves, as its evolution loses all of the charm and semi-realistic nature of its base form. Tirtouga stands out from other Turtle Pokémon due to the type of turtle it is based on, namely the leatherback. While its evolution may lose the charm of its base form, Tirtouga is still an underrated Fossil-type that deserves a second look from many Pokémon Trainers.

Tyrantrum is an iconic fossil design

The Pokémon franchise has regularly used puns to name its creatures over the years, and fossil Pokémon are no exception. Tyrantrum and its corresponding Pokédex entry use some of the franchise’s best puns, which only adds to the charm of this dinosaur-inspired Pokémon.

Tyrantrum stands at 8 feet 2 inches tall and weighs nearly 600 pounds, making it by far one of the largest fossil Pokémon.. Its base form, Tyrunt, is significantly smaller, standing just under a meter tall. Tyrantrum’s color scheme is simplistic, but it makes the important parts of the design stand out, like its sharp claws and teeth. Overall, Tyrantrum is the closest thing the Pokémon franchise has to a traditional Tyrannosaurus Rex, and this design is a fitting homage to the king of the dinosaurs.

Archeops evolves from Archen, a tiny but colorful bird.Archeops is a vibrant Pokémon with many different colors in its design that help it stand out from the other bland bird designs in the Pokédex. Overall, while Archeops has a great design, it’s not the most iconic flying Fossil Pokémon.

Aerodactyl is the best representation of Pokémon’s flying dinosaur.

Although this Fossil Pokémon has a rather simplistic design, Its spikes and red eyes help it stand out from the crowd.Additionally, Rampardos features in one of the most difficult boss fights in Pokémon. Ranger: Shadows of Almiamaking it one of the most recognizable fossils in the history of the Pokémon franchise.
