Talk with Variety At the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Nyong’o said The wild robot “The film will tug at the heartstrings of fans with its stories of loneliness, acceptance and parenthood. The wild robot tells the story of Nyong’o’s central character, ROZZUM Unit 7134 aka Roz, an abandoned robot who finds herself on a forest island and is forced to adapt to a harsh environment. Roz eventually forms relationships with some of the animals on the island and becomes the foster mother of an orphaned goose named Brightbill (Kit Connor). However, Roz struggles to teach Brightbill how to eat, swim, and fly before migration season, as the task of feeding the race is too sentimental and difficult for her to program.
However The wild robot is aimed at children and families, Nyong’o assures that people from all walks of life will enjoy the film and its themes. The film will also be aimed at parents, with Nyong’o emphasizing how the film “brings grace” to parenthood. “The journey that Roz takes, as a robot who finds herself with the task of being a mother, highlights the fact that every parent is doing it for the first time. There’s a learning curve,” she said. “We see that projected onto Roz, who has the naivety of a child, but in the role of a parent, we expect her to know everything.”
Nyong’o leads a star-studded voice cast in The wild robot. The animated feature film project also stars Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Stephanie Hsu, Pedro Pascal and Ving Rhames. The wild robot, which premiered at TIFF on September 8, was originally scheduled to hit theaters on September 20 before being pushed back a week to avoid direct competition with Paramount Animation.
