The Walking Dead experienced one of the longest, most complex and heartbreaking journeys. In addition to the flagship series, broadcast from 2010 to 2022, the series has received several spin-off series, including one centered on its favorite character, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
The series followed Norman Reedus’ main character as he found himself in Europe and trying to find his way home. In season 2, Carol’s bookbrought back another fan favorite, Carol Peletier, and the two began their journey together again, with the series finding its feet in season 3. However, after 15 years, it’s officially time to say goodbye to Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus revealed on his X account.
With a very artistic photo of Daryl’s half-hidden profile, Reedus revealed that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has officially finished filming season 4, which will also mark the final season of the series.
In the caption, Reedus wrote, “Last day of filming today for Daryl Dixon.” He continued, “It’s been such a joy for me to play this guy with all of you for so long. I feel truly blessed. I really do. Thank you all, truly from the bottom of my heart,” he concluded the short message by adding a red heart emoji.
Daryl Dixon was a main character in the original series and has the most appearances of any character, with 174 episodes in the flagship series. Reedus made his first appearance as Daryl Dixon in Season 1, Episode 3, “Tell It to the Frogs”, alongside his brother Merle. It didn’t take long and Daryl had become one of the key characters of the series, with the fandom adamant that they would revolt if he died.
Reedus’ deep understanding of the character also shaped his future. Speaking to CBR’s Grae Drake, the actor revealed that he saved Daryl from his original plan. “I had some pivotal moments with Daryl. I think the biggest one was when Merle died, and the writers let me do something a little different than what was originally planned,” Reedus explained. “Which made him a Merle…so he’s going to be racist and just a hothead, just an asshole, basically.”
He continued, “I wanted him to grow up with that and his family, but be embarrassed by it. So once his brother died, it gave him this new opportunity to become the man he wanted to be, right, and that show and even that ride, to a certain extent, always kind of paralleled my life in a weird way.”
Stranger Things creators confirm franchise’s future after leaving Netflix
Nine years after the series premiered, the future of Stranger Things has received a big update.
A year after the flagship series finale, he headed to his own spinoff show, which premiered in September 2023. He has currently appeared in all 19 episodes.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 was a huge success
The two spin-off series follow the main characters, Ghost townwhich follows the adventures of Maggie and Negan in New York, as well as Daryl Dixon, received mixed reviews for its first seasons. However, Daryl Dixon finally managed to find its place in season 3, which was the highest rated yet. Season 3 has the highest critic score, 80% approval, and 64% from the public, the only positive.
However, AMC isn’t dragging out the series for too long. This summer at San Diego Comic-Con, AMC confirmed that Daryl Dixon will end with season 4. At the same time, they also announced that filming will begin soon. A few months later, filming was already finished.
In a BTS video from early October, Reedus and Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, shared that they were still filming in Spain. At the same time, McBride said they’re “anticipating a really good season coming up” and admitted that Season 4 is “going to be even better than Season 3, which is pretty awesome.”
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 does not yet have a release date, although it is expected to return in 2026.
