The Walking Dead Fans have come to know and love Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon in the hit AMC horror drama franchise. Reedus recently spoke with CBR about the direction he took one of the show’s most beloved characters and what it means to star in the spinoff series. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
In an interview with CBR’s Grae Drake at New York Comic Con, Reedus talked about his performance and how he even had the freedom to The Walking DeadThe writers take the character in a different direction than initially planned. “I had some pivotal moments with Daryl. I think the biggest one was when Merle died, and the writers let me do something a little different than what was originally planned,” Reedus explained. “Which made him a Merle…so he’s going to be racist and just a hothead, just an asshole, basically.”
Reedus spoke about his own intentions for the character, saying, “I wanted him to grow up with that and his family, but be embarrassed by it. So once his brother dies, it gives him this new opportunity to become the man he wanted to be, right and this show and even this ride, to a certain extent, has always sort of paralleled my life in a weird way.”
He then reflected on the common themes that can be observed in The Walking Dead franchise. “You know, it’s like a recurring theme: You find your family in the least expected places, and what are you willing to do for your family?” Reedus said. “I mean, damn, […] That’s why I travel the world, and everyone is kind of the same.”
Reedus also revealed how his travels and the show’s influence played a major role in his daily life. “I care about what I do. I care about my family and my friends. I’ve been thinking about Daryl Dixon 24/7 for almost 15 years now. Like literally: go to bed, wake up, call other actors. Talk about it. Call these guys. Talk about it. There are many. I can’t even make a list of all the ways.”
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s next season will be the last
THE Daryl Dixon spin-off of The Walking Dead premiered in 2023, with Reedus reprising his role and taking the franchise into uncharted territory. The series opens with Daryl stranded in France – the origin of the zombie virus – and trying to figure out how he got there. Subsequent seasons explored his journey, shedding more light The Walking Dead universe.
Daryl DixonThe third season of premiered last month on September 7. The new episodes are expected to run until October 19. In July, before the third season even aired its first episode, the series was renewed for a fourth and final season, which does not currently have a release date.
