“We would like to share the sad news that our brother passed away over the weekend due to years of blood clotting problems. It was unexpected and sudden. Manu had such a unique artistic sensibility and sense of grandeur that we ask you to pray for his soul, because we know he wanted it to be that way. Thank you all”.
The legacy of Manuel M. Vidal
Manuel M. Vidal was born in Almería in 1972 and showed great talent as an artist from an early age. He started his professional career in In 1993, while studying at Escola Josso (Comics and Visual Arts Center in Barcelona), he trained for four years in illustration, comics, scriptwriting, graphic design, advertising and airbrushing.
He began featuring erotic stickers for chewing gum, as well as covers for role-playing magazines and fans. In addition, he came to work for the Generalitat of Catalonia. However, Manuel M. Vidal was creating his first work titled “Invasores en la Escalera” with the illustrator Ivan Sarnago, published by the Amaniaco publishing house.
After publishing his first work, Vidal returned to Almeria to teach humor and illustration courses and workshops. He also did some collaborations with the groups De Tebeos (Almería) and Diablo (El Ejido), and illustrated the graphic novel “Don Antonio de Berio” for Cerón City Council and Berja City Council for “Cerón, Justicia y Honor”. .
Vidal spent a season in commercials and illustrating books and comics until Planeta de Agostini asked him to adapt the animated program “La Cayenda del Dragon” into a comic format. For this work, Vidal received the Distinguished Author Award at ImagineMalaga 2007.
