After the writers’ strike, the much-anticipated sequel Silk: Spider-Society resumes in January.

The long-awaited MGM+/Prime Video series, Silk: Spider Society, is taking the first step to continue the creative process. According to sources close to the project, the writers’ room will reopen sometime in mid-to-late January, ending a hiatus forced by circumstances outside the fictional world.

The writers’ strike and its effect on silk

The series, another link in the wider Spider-Man universe, was one of those affected by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike that began on May 2. This hiatus not only kept fans of Cindy Moon’s central character Silk, but also caused a conflict between Amazon Studios and the WGA. Reason: Violation of Strike Termination Agreement (STA) for not starting script works on time.

Delays in restarting script work prompted WGAW (Writers Guild of America West) to issue a warning to Amazon Studios last month. The charge is serious: the failure to resume several episodes of the script after the strike is a violation of Article 7 of the STA and Collective Agreement (MBA). The WGA will not hesitate to take legal action against Amazon and any studio that violates the STA.

The team behind Silk Magic

Meanwhile, senior professionals at Amazon Studios are reviewing the script material produced so far by the writing team. Leading this team is Walking Dead veteran Angela Kang, who signed a comprehensive deal when she joined the project a year ago. The starting date for the writers’ class, still tentative, depends on this review and is subject to change.

Silk: Spider Society isn’t just another series; It is the first in a series of productions from Sony Pictures Television’s Spider-Man universe, available on both MGM+ and Prime Video. In the United States, MGM+ will have Scope, while Prime Video will host the subsequent broadcast. Globally, fans can enjoy Prime Video consistently in more than 240 countries and territories.

The evolution of silk

The story of Cindy Moon, aka Silk, is a story of empowerment and survival. Designed by the same spider that transformed Peter Parker, Cindy has similar abilities but unique quirks. Her ability to spin webs at will and unique spider-sense make her stand out in the pantheon of superheroes. The series promises to explore not only crime-fighting but also his personal journey, an aspect that will resonate deeply with fans.

Compared to other characters in the Spider-Man universe, Silk brings a different freshness and emotional depth. While Peter Parker represents the juxtaposition of superhero and teenager, Cindy Moon addresses themes of identity, family and belonging in a new and familiar way for fans of the Marvel Universe. This combination of unique features and universal themes promises to make Spider-Man stories a valuable and exciting addition to the rich Spider-Man literature.

The silk plot

The project has a famous production team. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the creators behind ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,’ will oversee Sony TV’s efforts to exploit the studio’s comic book franchise. Along with them, Angela Kang and Amy Pascal, creator of the Spider-Man franchise, will form the top executive team.

Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos and inspired by Marvel Comics, Silk: Spider Society follows the story of Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman who is bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. After escaping from prison, Cindy embarks on a desperate search to find her missing family, and transforms into a heroine named Silk.
