A new rumor about Spider-Man Noir claims that Nicolas Cage will be playing a never-before-seen live-action version of Peter Parker.

Prime Video’s Spider-Man series set in the Depression era has begun revealing surprising details about Cage’s role. And although we know that Cage will not play a different version of Peter Parker, the character will have a very interesting relationship with the spider hero.

A surprising twist in history

According to celebrity insider Daniel Richman, Nicolas Cage will play Ben Reilly, a character who takes on the Scarlet Spider tagline of Peter Parker in the comics. However, given the setting of the series, this Ben Reilly will likely only share a name with his comic book counterpart.

“Amazon Prime is ready to offer a new direction in the next series in the Spider-Man saga. Breaking with tradition, this series will feature Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, instead of the iconic Peter Parker.”

A new look for Spider-Noir

The plot follows an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (played by Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to confront his past as the city’s only superhero.

The series will be written and executive produced by Oren Uziel, known for his work on films such as 22 Jump Street, Mortal Kombat and The Cloverfield Paradox. Additionally, it features Spider-Verse creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and former Sony boss Amy Pascal.

The return of the Cage and new characters

Although Nicolas Cage did not reprise his Spider-Noir role in the recent Spider-Man animated sequel, he is expected to return for the final film in the Beyond the Spider-Verse animated trilogy.

In Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir’s character was primarily used as comic relief. However, the comics offer a much darker version, which raises curiosity about the direction this live-action series will take.

New faces in the cast

Recently, Brendan Gleeson joined the cast in the villainous role. While it is not known what the character will be, he is rumored to be playing Sandman.

Spider-Noir, known simply as Noir, is a superhero from the Marvel Noir universe (Earth-90214). This alternate version of Spider-Man emerged in New York during the Great Depression. While investigating a smuggling ring, Peter Parker is bitten by a highly venomous spider housed in an idol of the Spider God. After Parker falls unconscious, the Spider God promises him the power. When he wakes up in a cocoon, he emerges with superhuman spider-like abilities.

Increasing expectations

The change from Peter Parker to Ben Reilly in the Prime Video series is a bold turn that could revitalize the Spider-Man franchise. This approach gives fans a chance to see Nicolas Cage in an entirely new role, unlike the comic relief he provided in the animated film.

Additionally, the addition of characters like Sandman and other potential villains adds an element of intrigue and excitement. The cooperation of Oren Uziel and the producers of Into the Spider-Verse indicates that the series will have high quality in terms of writing and production.

Undoubtedly, expectations are higher than ever to see Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly in this dark and stylized world of noir.
