Sally Barstow

Sally Barstow, the new threat to the Incredible Hulk.

Since Bruce Banner and his alter ego were created in an adventure simply called The Hulk, he had many enemies in the Incredible Hulk #1 (1962) comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The title should have been in front. However, the current phase of the character, which began in August of last year, coincides with the fourth part of the series, with the appearance of a new threat known as Sally, the eldest son of Philip Kennedy Johnson, Nick Klein and Journey Foreman. Barstow, the swamp witch.

But what is the origin of said behavior? To answer that question, we have to go back centuries ago, when people planted banners and crosses in the mud in addition to playing in war. It was during that time that a servant named Sally Barstow appeared on the other side of the ocean.

A commander bought the girl to serve his family on their way to the New World. And though she was a strange child, in her simplicity, in her silence, in how slow she was to laugh, and how much more at ease in the company of animals than men, she was also very hardworking, so that the wife of the soldier decided to take Sally Barstow as his own daughter.

Sally Barstow is busy cleaning, cooking and helping raise the soldier’s children while the young woman’s husband and his men devote themselves to crushing the natives who attempt to plant their cross and attack their fort. Life seemed to be smiling until it was discovered that she was pregnant.

The soldier’s wife, Sally Barstow, was convinced that a very beautiful young soldier had cheated on her. But when the girl revealed that the father of the baby she was expecting was none other than her employer, the woman became furious and accused her of using bad tricks to woo her husband.

Determined to completely destroy who she was as a girl, the woman went to a priest and told him that she had seen the girl sleeping with another man, with dark hair, red eyes, and a light walking on his hoof. of the moon. The woman said that this creature could only be the devil, so Sally Barstow must be killed to prevent her child from being born.

And so the young woman was chased by religious men and soldiers into a swamp, where she sat, beaten, trampled by horses, and finally butchered, her body left as food for the creeping creatures of the swamp.

However, Sally Barstow was a witch who brought with her the secret of Devon Beldam, a promise of power and wisdom. The girl’s mother had told her wisdom to merge with the beast, the earth, the wind and the rain, so the charge that she misled the soldier with bad arts was correct. However, she will not let death stand in the way of her revenge.

Across the swamp, with Sally Barstow’s blood, she ran her love, her pain, her bitterness, her hatred and her black magic. In this way, the animals that feed on her remains are transformed, and her unborn child becomes a monster ready to avenge her mother.

From then on, the army began to face various dangers: the mud jammed the tires of their vehicles, the water covered the road, the weapons did not work at all and the soldiers found themselves all but killed by arrows and spears. They end up in the jaws of crocodiles or snakes, not forgetting the diseases transmitted by the mosquitoes that bite them. They were also lost in the night, following the haunting sounds of lost lovers. Everyone begins to suspect that the swamp witch and her revenge are responsible.

The fort fell to native attacks, finding only the bodies of the dead soldiers, as the settlers fled and the soldier’s family fell victim to malaria. The fort was not burned because the swamp claimed it for itself.

And what happened to the commander? He was lost for some time in the swamp and was eating fever, where he was to find revenge for Sally Barstow’s unborn daughter.

Now that the witch seems to have her sights set on the Hulk, we’ll have to wait and see if all her powers are enough against one of the most powerful creatures on the planet.
