Tim Blake Nelson Talks The Leader’s Return In The Next Captain America Episode And Why He’s Been Missing For 16 Years
Tim Blake Nelson, best known for his role in ‘The Incredible Hulk’, has revealed details about the leader’s surprise reappearance in the MCU. The new Captain America movie promises to explain what this villain has been up to for more than a decade.
A known absence
One of the most shocking revelations of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will be Sam Wilson confronting the leader of an old enemy. Played by Tim Blake Nelson, this character first appeared in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. We meet Samuel Stearns, a scientist who begins to transform into a leader after an accident with Bruce Banner’s blood.
The last we see of Stearns is when his head begins to grow back from Banner’s blood from his head wound. Then, a tie-in comic (of dubious canonicity) mentions that Black Widow took him into SHIELD custody and nothing since.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Nelson confirmed his participation in the Brave New World reshoots. “I’m really excited about it. I’m going to Atlanta tomorrow to continue working on it. It’s been fun to bring back a character from 16 years ago and imagine how he’s aged with me and how he’s revealed himself,” Nelson said.
Nelson hinted that Marvel had prepared a “very interesting revelation” to explain the leader’s absence. Although no specific details were given, many fans speculated that he was working undercover for the US government, which would explain how President Ross would become the angry Red Hulk.
“I had a great time on set,” added Nelson. And I worked with the Marvel team and an amazing makeup artist named David Atherton, who I’ve worked with on a dozen movies.
Nelson also teased that the leader’s appearance will be impressive: “I think people will really enjoy the way this guy looks.” And what to say and do. “All credit to the amazing team at Marvel.”
A starry and promising direction
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ features an impressive cast including Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lambley, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Zosha Rockmore, Giancarlo Esposito and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. The film is directed by Julius Onah, from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Onah is believed to have revised the script, and Matthew Orton has written new scenes for additional photography taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.
