Illumination wants to make a Super Smash Bros. movie as part of an MCU-style shared universe
After the incredible success of the Super Mario Bros. movie, Illumination has now decided to make a Super Smash Bros. movie in a pure Avengers style.
It will be one of Illumination’s plans for a Super Smash Bros. project.
The Super Mario Bros. movie has become one of the highest-grossing productions of 2023, earning more than $1 billion, leading many to assume that Illumination will announce another Nintendo-related project. However, the popular video game company had other plans as the Japanese company teamed up with Sony to make a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. Now, a new report reveals that while Illuminati doesn’t say anything about new Nintendo projects, the studio plans to continue using the company’s characters.
An insider has confirmed that Daniel Richman plans to launch an Avengers-style Super Smash Bros. movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This project will be a sort of synopsis for other movies featuring various Nintendo characters, basically a description of UCM.
With the number of franchises Nintendo owns, it’s understandable that they’re already thinking about bringing the company’s most popular characters together, but even though a Super Smash Bros. movie sounds great, all that’s been shared is rumors. In any case, if Richman’s comments are true, Illumination only pitched the idea to Nintendo, and we don’t know if the video game company will give the green light to the decision.
