Unsurprisingly, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies of the Eastern series has denied rumors of David Tennant, best known for his role as the Fourteenth Doctor, being cast. The news comes amid a flurry of speculation fueled by the tenant’s return for the series’ 60th anniversary.

Despite the actor’s popularity, Davis revealed during a recent press screening of this year’s Christmas special that there are no plans for such a project. Quoting Radio Times, the show joked: “Sorry, it’s the age of Naughty – ‘Who’s David?’ he said jokingly. With an emphasis on new talent Nikuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson playing the Fifteenth Doctor and his companion Ruby Sunday, Davies promises an exciting journey through the universe.
The mystery surrounding Tenant and his role in the future of Doctor Who remains a hot topic among fans. However, the focus is now on the newcomers who promise to capture the hearts of the audience with their new adventures.
The birth of doctors
Although Davis has closed the door on his run on Tenant , it doesn’t rule out future appearances by other actors attached to the series. Giggle, the third and final 60th anniversary special, is a narrative chapter: two-generations. This process, previously considered a myth by the Time Lords, led to the creation of a new incarnation of the Doctor, living alongside the old one. So, the Fourteenth Doctor retreated to Earth to heal, while the Fifteenth Doctor went on his way to protect the universe.
Davies, in his critique of The Giggle, stated that bi-generation affects all incarnations of the Doctor over time, creating several alternate timelines in which the Doctor’s incarnations never regenerate. “I think all the Doctors came back to life with a personal TARDIS, a gift from a player,” Davies explained. “They all travel through what I call the Doctorverse.”
This development has been hinted at in previous episodes of the TARDIS series on BBC iPlayer, which will see several companions and famous Doctors reunite in a new TARDIS. This opens the door to more adventures for actors willing to reprise their iconic roles.
