Sonic the Hedgehog 3 composer Tom Holkenborg talks about the film and fans can’t contain their excitement.

The wait is almost over for hedgehog fans as Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hits theaters just in time for Christmas. Months after its release, the third installment of the saga has created quite a stir thanks to the franchise’s composer Tom Holkenberg, also known as Junkie XL.

Composer words

Holkenberg shared his impressions of the film in a recent interview with Collider, revealing that he has seen the film in its entirety and found it “exciting.” He said that the children have watched the previous two movies countless times and they are especially happy that they will be able to enjoy the third part when it comes out at the end of the year.

“I saw the film for the first time yesterday. I know what the film is about,” he said. [Jeff Fowler], I have known for a long time. I used to work with Tim Miller at Blur Studios. With Tim and Jeff, at that time, I made Deadpool, and then Terminator: Dark Fate, and then it was the first Sonic, then the second Sonic, and now it’s the third Sonic. It’s a very interesting film. It’s a lot of fun.”

Holkenberg added: “I have two young children, and it’s great to have a composer see a movie you’ve made and get them excited to see it.” You’ve seen the first and second maybe 20, 30, 40 times. That’s how our little kids want to do it, you know? You want to see it again and again. So I’m really excited when you see this at the end of the year.

The magic of the blue hedgehog returns with everything

Jeff Fowler directs this third installment from a script by Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as the voice of the character Fast, and Jim Carrey will return as Dr. Robotnik. Joining Schwartz and Colin O’Shaughnessy as Tails are Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves, who play Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog, respectively. The cast includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Lee Majdub, Tom Butler, Alaila Brown and Krysten Ritter.

The first Sonic movie was released in theaters in 2020 to critical acclaim, setting a new record for the best opening for a movie based on a video game. The film grossed over $319 million on a budget of less than $100 million. The second part released in 2022 continued the success of the previous one.

Fan expectations

From the classic video games to the latest movie adaptation, the Sega mascot franchise has captured the hearts of many generations. The addition of popular characters such as Knuckles and Shadow promises to take the fun to new levels, and with the experienced direction of Jeff Fowler, the film has all the ingredients to be a Christmas hit.

Hulkenberg, who has worked on several blockbuster projects including Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate, has a special relationship with Sonic, having composed the music for all the films in the series so far. Their enthusiasm for this third installment is a positive sign for the fans who are eagerly waiting.

Star cast

Jim Carrey’s return as the villainous Dr. Robotnik is another one of the most anticipated aspects of the film.
