What to expect from the prequel?
Since Peacock announced the development of Crystal Lake in October 2022 the project had a turbulent path. Originally led by Bryan Fuller, the creator left his position in May 2024 due to creative differences. Although Fuller described his vision as “ambitious and risky,” he also acknowledged that it took a huge leap of faith on the part of the studio and viewers.
With Kane’s arrival in August 2024, the project took a different direction. Kane, known for his work on the series En: Welcome to Derry —prequel to the adaptation of It by Andy Muschietti, is no stranger to horror or origin stories. In his words, his relationship with Jason Voorhees began when, at the age of 8, he saw the villain crush a human eye in beautiful 3D. His statement was clear: “My creative destiny has always been linked to the Man Behind the Mask”.
¿Halloween 2025?

Cunningham, director of the original film of Friday 13thshared in September 2024 that, according to A24, filming could begin in Australia later this year, with a possible premiere in Halloween 2025. However, Cunningham was cautious, warning that projects of this scale always encounter unexpected events.
Crystal Lake will mark a milestone for A24, being its first major project based on a renowned intellectual property. Additionally, it will be the second follow-up series within the franchise universe Friday the 13th: The Seriesreleased between 1987 and 1990.
A safe bet for slasher fans
The challenge of Crystal Lake This is no small feat: it must honor the rich history of Jason Voorhees while introducing new layers to the myth. While the original films focused on brutality and sheer horror, fans are hoping this prequel delves deeper into the topic origins of Pamela and Jasonexploring how the curses and tragedies surrounding the camp were forged.
The change of showrunner can be an advantage. With Kane at the helm, the series could take a fresh approach, balancing nostalgia and modernity to appeal to both saga veterans and new audiences.
