The new season will break records and introduce characters who will talk a lot due to controversy.
Amazon Prime Video has revealed that it will put a smile on the faces of Boyce fans and make detractors bite their tongues. Season four of this series debuted with a 21 percent increase in viewership in the first four days of its release compared to the first three episodes of the previous season.
This increase speaks not only to the growing global interest in Homelander and its team of villains, but also to how The Boys has established itself as one of the most-watched series in Prime Video history. In fact, at the same time it was only surpassed in attitude by Reacher. It is no small fact that 60% of the audience comes from outside the United States, with significant viewing peaks in Brazil, the United Kingdom and India.
New characters shake up the universe of men
In a recent interview with EW, series showrunner Eric Kripke delved into the new characters that promise to change the dynamics of the story. These include Susan Hayward as Sister Sage and Valorie Curry as Firecracker, two superheroes who come to further challenge the limits of political correctness.
Sister Sage: The Unmissable Tactical Linnaeus: Kripke describes Sister Sage as “the smartest person in the world,” an African-American woman raised in a low socioeconomic environment whose opinions are often ignored, turning her into a bitter misogynist. This character not only contributes to the plot with his sharp strategic intelligence, but also provides a harsh critique of a society that ignores the voices of minorities.
Firecracker: Armed Extremist: Firecracker, on the other hand, represents American right-wing extremism, her background uncannily connecting with other characters in the series. Kripke describes it as a mix of conspiracy theorists and right-wing media who promise to add an explosive flavor to the series’ serious conflicts.
High expectations and inevitable challenges
Boys Season 4 not only raises the bar in terms of viewership, but also introduces narrative elements that challenge expectations of the superhero genre. As Victoria Neumann approaches the president and consolidates his domestic power, along with an ailing Butcher and an increasingly desperate team, the challenges are greater than ever.
This increase in plot and character complexity not only makes for quality entertainment, but also strengthens The Boys’ position as a series that isn’t afraid to look at contemporary culture and politics. With these new additions, the series promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, anticipating each new episode.
Differences between comics and serials
The Boys gained notoriety for its critical and no-holds-barred approach to the superhero genre in the comic book version created by Garth Ennis and Darric Robertson and in the Amazon Prime Video series. However, there are significant differences between both versions that affect how the story unfolds.
In the comic, the violence and sexual content is more explicit, a direct reflection of Ennis’ uncensored style. The series, while daring, adapts these elements to suit a wider audience. The series will also introduce new characters and story arcs not seen in the comics, offering a fresh take on the iconic battle between men and corrupt heroes. This adaptation allowed for a deeper exploration of current affairs, making the series relevant in the current context.
