As The boys set to air its fifth and final season in 2026, fans will finally have the answer to one of the show’s biggest mysteries. Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, has revealed what the upcoming episodes will reveal.
By GamesRadar+Urban explained how the new season of The boys will reveal the origin of Billy Butcher’s forehead scar during his appearance at MCM Comic Con in London. “Personally, I’d like to keep it a little bit enigmatic,” he said. “But, in Season 5, you’re going to find out the origin of Butcher’s scar. It’s a spoiler that I’m going to tell you – so I can’t divulge it in this piece, but you’re going to find out!” Urban played Butcher, the leader of the Boys, for the entire run of the series, with much of the plot centering around his hatred for Homelander (Antony Starr).
The boys has officially been renewed for its fifth and final season, set to arrive on Prime Video sometime in 2026. Urban will be joined by Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, Jensen Ackles, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and more, all returning from previous seasons to round out the series’ impressive cast. Daveed Diggs (Disney live-action film) Little Mermaid) will join the main cast, with confirmed guests including Seth Rogen, Misha Collins and Jared Padalcki.
The boys Season 5 will resume after the events of Generation V Season 2, which is a spin-off of the series and also loosely based on the comic book source material. The success of The boys gave rise to other spin-offs, including a web series (Seven out of 7) and an animated anthology for adults (Diabolical). A prequel series, Vought Rising starring Jensen Ackles, is currently in production.
How long fans will have to wait to learn more about Butcher’s forehead scar remains to be seen, but the new season is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s boldest. Earlier this month, Ackles revealed that he had to step out while filming one of the upcoming episodes. “They were like, ‘Uh… cut,’ and I was like, ‘I’m sorry… I wasn’t prepared for that… and I don’t think anyone else will be either,'” he teased. Considering The boys likes to push the boundaries with its depictions of violence, it’s likely the final season will go off with a bang.
The boys recently broke 2 Guinness World Records
In addition to revealing what to expect in Season 5 of The boysUrban also accepted two Guinness World Records alongside his co-stars on behalf of the series. It received the “Most Requested Action/Adventure TV Show” and “Most Requested Superhero TV Show” awards, and Urban thanked the creators of the show’s comic book sources while accepting the awards. “I just want to say that this is really, really special to us… Really amazing. There are a few people we should really thank: Garth Ennis, for example, who was the creator of The boys. Stunning graphic novels, stunning comics if you haven’t read them.”
Urban also thanked the series’ executive producers, including Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke. “We have to thank Erik Kripke who, you know, without his captain of the ship, none of this would have been possible,” he added, before also taking the time to thank the fans who catapulted the series to global success. “Thank you fans for being with us for four seasons. The fifth coming up. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for season 5, and it means a lot to us. Thank you.”
The boys is now streaming on Prime Video. Season 5 is expected to air in 2026.
