Pachinko Is a lush adaptation of a classic novel
In 2017, Min Jin Lee’s novel, Pachinkowas published to great acclaim, appearing in nearly every major newspaper’s Top 10 Books of 2017 lists, and this led a number of observers to wonder whether the novel would be adapted into a film, miniseries or in a television series. Apple TV stepped in and decided to make it into a TV series.
The series tells the story of four generations of a Korean family from 1915 to 1989. Its lavish production budget and stunning cinematography made it one of the most acclaimed television series, although, curiously, it did not didn’t get much love at first. Emmy Awards for its first season, garnering only one nomination for a minor award (best title design). Hopefully season 2 gets more attention from the Academy.
Bad Sisters is a dark comedy about the power of sisterhood
In the first season of Bad sistersan Irish woman’s abusive husband dies mysteriously and the small insurance company that insured the husband must prove that the sisters really murdered the man or their family business will go bankrupt. We follow in flashbacks to see if the man was actually murdered, and if so, by WHO.
It’s a dark and hilarious comedy about the bond between sisters. Series star Sharon Horgan also developed and presented the series. The second season followed another mystery involving the sisters.

Central Park Was a musical love letter to New York
In one of Apple’s first big moves for its streaming service, the company has acquired a new animated series from Loren Bouchard, the creator of the long-running hit animated series, Bob’s Burgers. Bouchard created this new series with Josh Gad and Nora Smith, and it features an eccentric family who live in Central Park and try to prevent it from being transformed into condos, restaurants and stores.
The series featured a number of charming songs and had a stellar cast of actors, with Leslie Odom Jr. and Kathyryn Hahn playing the parents, Titus Burgess and Emmy Raver-Lampman as the children (Kristen Bell played the Originally Molly, the girl, was the main character of the series, but as part of a larger attempt to have white actors not play non-white characters, Raver-Lampman took over after the season 1), and Stanley Tucci as the evil real estate developer trying to plow up Central Park.

Little Voice was a wonderful showcase for the music of Sara Bareilles
Brittany O’Grady had a star turn Little voice as Bess Alice King, a young woman trying to become a singer-songwriter, while going through family drama and finding herself in an unexpected love triangle between a musician (played by Colton Ryan) and a dancer (played by Sean Teale).
Created by Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, the show was a wonderful showcase for Bareilles’ music, as Bess’s music in the show were actual songs that Bareilles had written herself when she was a young woman trying to become an author -composer-performer. This gave the whole show a really great feeling of authenticity and, of course, some really great music from an iconic songwriter like Bareilles. Unfortunately, the series only lasted one season.

Dear Edward was a heartfelt story about shared grief
Apple has regularly tried to convince notable television writers to work with it on projects. So it’s no surprise that she signed on with Friday Night Lights creator Jason Katims to create a new drama series for them. Dear Edward was based on a novel by Ann Napolitano and was about a young boy, Edward (Colin O’Brien), who was the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed the rest of its 103 passengers and crew. crew, including Edward’s parents and his older brother (who had changed seats before the flight to allow Edward to have the window seat).
The idea for the series was built around an airline-funded grief support group that brought the families of fellow victims to interact with each other, help each other, and in some cases, to even fall in love. Connie Britton stood out as a seemingly wealthy woman who discovered that her husband, who died during the flight, had actually left her penniless. Taylor Schilling was Edward’s aunt, who struggled with infertility, but now found herself immediately a parent, albeit to a boy with insane heartbreak. What complicated matters was the fact that Edward was now starting to receive letters from all over the world. It was a good TV show, but it only lasted one season.

Bad Monkey made his setting almost a main character
Carl Hiaasen is very famous for his detective novels set in South Florida, and Bill Lawrence smartly leaned into keeping Hiasen’s traditional feel. Bad monkeythis popular crime/comedy drama adapting Hiaasen’s book of the same name, starring Vince Vaughn as a former police detective drawn into a murder mystery.
The South Florida setting is as much a major character in the show as any of the colorful characters that populate the show (and there are a LOT of colorful characters on the show, led by former cop incredibly offbeat by Vaughn).
Andrew Yancy, a former detective turned health inspector in Florida, becomes embroiled in a mysterious case involving a severed arm found by a tourist. As Yancy digs deeper, he uncovers a web of corruption, crime and dark secrets in the Florida Keys.
Dark matter plays with major and mind-blowing ideas
One of the concerns of networks like Apple TV is that when they come up with a particularly mind-blowing concept, audiences fear being invested in a complicated concept, only to have the network cancel it after just one season. the effort seems in vain. Fortunately, Apple TV has been able to renew some of its less famous shows, which rewards viewers willing to put in a little more work, and Dark matter is precisely one of these kinds of shows.
Starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connolly, the series tells the story of a man whose life was stolen… from himself! An alternate reality version of himself, that is, and now man must travel through a series of alternate realities to try to reclaim his life from his alternate reality, but as we know from all scientific experiments, once you start observing anything, the situation changes, and we see this affect man himself as he travels from world to world and gets closer to the scientist who is working with him.

Slow Horses is an acting showcase for its protagonists
Slow Horses is about “Slough House”, a section of M15 where agents are assigned when they screw up enough that they are no longer assigned major cases, but not so much that they can realistically be fired, so they are sent in Slough. House to end his career in career purgatory, run by an annoying boss, Jackson Lamb (played by Gary Oldman).
The problem, of course, is that these agents (who are not necessarily bad agents, but simply ones who have had bad times) start working on cases again and start being successful. Manhunt describes the 12 days of searching for John Wilkes Booth
Manhunt follows the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Organized by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, a 12-day manhunt ensues for Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth. The miniseries is based on the book by James L. Swanson, Manhunt: The 12-day pursuit for Lincoln’s killer.
Although it is based on a real event in American history, the series is partly fictionalized for dramatic purposes. The first episode depicts the Lincoln assassination, and it’s not for the faint of heart, as creator Monica Beletsky said the purpose of the gore was to allow viewers to see how gruesome the murder was, as well as to describe how cowardly Booth’s actions were.

REVIEW: Sugar offers a fresh, starry take on Neo-Noir
The Apple TV+ original series Sugar allows Colin Farrell to balance timeless and fresh directions for the neo-noir genre. Here is CBR’s review.
Sugar is a modern-day noir set in Los Angeles
Sugar stars Colin Farrell as private detective John Sugar, assigned to investigate the disappearance of Olivia Siegel. Olivia is the granddaughter of Bernie Siegel, a legendary Hollywood producer. The series stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Amy Ryan, Dennis Boutsikaris and James Cromwell.
A modern-day black, Sugar is not defined in a single genre either, telling a contemporary detective novel full of twists and turns. In fact, critics went all out with the show’s big twist, and it proved divisive depending on who you ask. All signs point to Sugar be a must-see for thriller fans to see if they can unravel the mystery themselves.

The completely invented adventures of Dick Turpin are a comic take on the legendary highwayman
The Completely Invented Adventures of Dick Turpin is a fictionalized version of the life of Dick Turpin, an 18th-century English bandit. In the series, Turpin is the leader of the Essex gang who commit various crimes across England. Turpin struggles to escape Jonathan Wilde, a “thief” and vigilante. He is also being pursued by a secret criminal organization called The Syndicate.
Dick Turpin has had several films made about him over a hundred years, but none of them have been completely fictionalized, much less a comedy like this series. This, however, made the series stand out among other Turpin adaptations, in addition to its 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet, but since it was a hit with viewers, it certainly has a good shot.
