Although Yoda, as Grand Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic era, could theoretically appear, Headland confirmed in an interview with ComicBook that the beloved Jedi Master will not be present. “Can you guess? ‘No problem, you can use Yoda. Go ahead.’ No, there won’t be a Yoda cameo,” explained Helland, with a hint of despair mixed with humor on the part of fans.
Headland sees Yoda’s absence as a problem, not an opportunity. Acolyte delves into the High Republic era, an under-explored period in the Star Wars narrative, allowing the series to shine without the shadow of mature characters. “There were two reasons I wanted to set it in that particular time period and away from the prequels. One, I didn’t want to interfere with existing canon. Also, this season felt like a sandbox that I could easily jump over,” Headland shared in an interview with Den of Geek.
Promising actors for a new saga
Acolyte promises to explore new thematics and timelines, but also brings new faces to the franchise. Amandla Stenberg leads a dual-role cast as twin sisters Osha and Mae, alongside stars such as Lee Jung-ja, Manny Jacinto, Daphne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Margarita Leviva and Carrie-Anne Moss. This mix of fresh talent and original storytelling promises to deliver a unique experience for fans and new viewers alike.
Speculation grows as the release date approaches; The Acolyte premieres on June 4, 2024 on Disney+.
