Mortal Kombat II stars Adeline Rudolph and Tati Gabrielle have revealed what it was like to be on the set of the upcoming video game adaptation. Both previously starred in the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
In an exclusive interview with CBR’s Grae Drake, the actors talked about how working on the upcoming martial arts fantasy film required a different experience than starring in the Netflix horror series. The two bonded on the set of Sabrinawhere Gabrielle played Prudence and Rudolph played her ally, Agatha. In Mortal Combattheir characters will share a similar friendship, like Jade and Kitana respectively. “All [was different on Mortal Kombat]”, Gabrielle shared. “Besides having each other and having the connection and chemistry that we already had.”
“I would say that everything was so different, even the relationship between [them]. Yes, these two are sisters in a way, in the same way, but such a different type of sisterhood,” she added of Jade and Kitana. “A sisterhood that I think is built in a loyalty that is naturally born but needs to be fortified.”
Gabrielle then talked about her portrayal of the character Jade and how her friendship with Rudolph made things easier. Mortal Kombat II together. “For me, it was such a pleasure to be able to experience this without [Adeline]especially because Jade was a very challenging character for me, and bouncing her around kept me constantly informed. Consistently allowed me to land safely.
For Rudolph, her approach meant building on the fundamental bond she developed with Gabrielle on the set of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. “I think we approach our characters very differently Sabrina […] Again, like Tati said, we took our chemistry that we had and then started working on these characters again.”
Bringing the legendary Edenian princess Kitana to life – including her complicated relationship with the assassin Jade – was a fun but challenging experience. “Completely different stories, completely different relationships. Loyalties that are constantly tested,” Rudolph explained. “Trying to navigate their relationship throughout this movie has been really fun, and like Tati said, being able to rely on each other in those moments has been a blessing for me.”
Mortal Kombat II Compared to Legendary Marvel Film in Test Screenings
Fans of Sabrina co-stars will be able to see the couple reunited when Mortal Kombat II will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026. A third film is already in development, and it seems that Warner Bros. Pictures has full confidence in the power of the video game franchise at the box office. This was further reinforced during recent test screenings of the film, with producer Greg Russo speaking to CBR about the positive fan reaction.
“There were people jumping out of their seats and the last time I saw that happen was [Avengers:] End of game at the theater. So I’m not saying that all theaters will have the same reaction, but I’m saying that, from my point of view, it was a End of game“The reaction was level, and the fans lost their minds.”
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on May 15, 2026.
