Swamp Thing: James Mangold is tackling the DC project as a standalone film

James Mangold talked about one of James Gunn’s first DCU films, Swamp Thing

The director of Logan and the last film Indiana Jones, James Mangoldshares his way of seeing the project Swamp thing of the new DCU.

Mangold wants to make an independent gothic horror film

The popular director spoke to MovieWeb, an opportunity he took to reveal how he plans to approach his film from James Gunn’s new DC universe.

“With Bob [Dylan] The quantities are known, yes, but there are ways to interpret them. With other types of intellectual property it reaches a religious level. In DC’s Swamp Thing, the question is simply: Can we find a way to say something original on the page?

“I’m sure DC considers Swamp Thing as a franchise, but I would consider it a very simple and clean gothic horror film about this man/monster. I just do what I want, an independent film.”

The director then reflected on his experience in the entertainment world after working in various genres.

“They gave me the opportunity to work in different genres because people finance me. If I were just a horror movie director and people only wanted to pay for my horror movies, the problem would be different. But part of the joy is that you learn a lot when you change genre or language in some of the ways you communicate in your art.

“I learned a lot, whether it’s making an action movie or a Western and applying those energies to some sort of superhero or Marvel movie. Not only do you learn things from doing one genre, but you also learn to transfer the lessons of that genre into another that you might not expect.

The Swamp Thing movie doesn’t have a release date yet.
