Studio Ghibli Launches New Collectible Doll Series for Fans of Totoro, Spirited Away and More

For anime lovers looking for fluffy stocking stuffers for the upcoming holiday season, Studio Ghibli has fans covered. Somewhere between a traditional figurine and a cozy plush toy, the popular production company has introduced a new line of products representing some of its best works.

Official Studio Ghibli Online Store Donguri Sora has launched a new range of dolls that combine the best qualities of traditional plastic figures with the tactile softness of soft toys. The range includes the studio’s most famous works, including Spirited Away And My Neighbor Totoroas well as Kiki’s delivery service. The dolls are formed from traditional PVC figures which are then covered in nylon fiber, making them stable yet inviting to the touch.

Studio Ghibli’s Cozy New Collection Combines Plush Toys and Figures for the Best of Both Worlds

Of course, almost every new product line from Studio Ghibli will include one of the fluffiest creatures in all of anime, Totoro. The bear-like fantasy animal is present, as well as its many smaller variations. Big Totoro doll stands 4.1 inches tall and has three whiskers placed on either side to complement his doe-eyed expression. Also on sale are the little blue and white Totoros that sometimes accompany it. This unique set includes two dolls covered in blue and white down, but without whiskers. These two product offerings are each priced at 4,400 yen (~US$29.46).

However, the My Neighbor Totoro love is not yet over; the retailer also introduced an eternally precocious Mei doll. Venturing out without her older sister Satsuki, this doll also measures 4.1 inches – the same size as Big Totoro and certainly not true to tradition. However, what sets this doll apart from the rest of the line is the adorable set of clothes and accessories included. Mei comes with a sun hat, yellow shoulder bag, and small shoes, costing a total of 5,280 yen (US$35). No-Face from the Oscar-winning film Spirited Away is also represented by the tallest doll in the line, measuring 5.3 inches. Chihiro’s silent and sometimes unstable companion comes with a lantern and costs 6,380 yen (US$42.69).
