Adam Driver, the actor who gave life to Kylo Ren in the Star Wars saga, has confirmed that one of the key moments in The Rise of Skywalker was not an original idea for the sequel trilogy.
Kylo Ren’s redemption was not part of the plan
Kylo Ren found redemption for his parents in The Rise of Skywalker, adopting Ben Solo to help Rey in her fight, something fans felt he was forced to do after the character was abdicated as Supreme Leader of the First Order at the end of The Last Jedi. . Now, the driver himself stated that this decision was made at the last moment.
In an interview with The Rich Eisen Show, Driver commented that the original plan for Kylo Ren was to fall completely to the dark side, with the final film in the Star Wars trilogy featuring a stronger Sith version of him. Driver Ben Solo said that Kylo’s redemption was later a change made by Abrams, saying that it was not originally intended.
Driver describes Kylo Ren’s originally intended arc as the opposite of Darth Vader’s. The actor thought he would play a villain whose relationship with the dark side grows stronger as he moves forward to achieve his goal, which is very different from what is seen in theaters.
Driver had completely cut his vision for the character, but last-minute changes in Episode IX rendered Kylo’s arc worthless and forced his redemption.
