Sons of Anarchy is great, but 1 scene still makes me furious 10 years later

This article is about suicide.

It’s been over 10 years since Jax died at Sons of AnarchyIt’s the finale, and I’m still having trouble letting go of the ending. At the end of the series, Jax drives his motorcycle into a truck with a trail of police cars on the back. There is nothing peaceful Sons of Anarchythe ending being the most disturbing. Although Jax has a smile on his face when he lets go of the bike, I can’t help but think of the seeds he planted in the hearts of his sons. I wonder where they are, what life they lead and if they will ever be able to get over the fact that their father left them and stop looking for the reason.

Jax never did. He claims that JT’s death didn’t stop him from being the person he wants to be, but JT’s death became what defined him and his choices. It’s outrageous that Jax couldn’t see through the lies he told himself, and he continued to pass on the generational curse to his sons even worse than his mother did with her lies. It’s a good thing there isn’t Sons of Anarchy legacy series because I’m really scared of what I’m going to find.

Jax Teller has a worse fate than his father

The original newscaster, John Teller, was murdered by those close to him. JT’s bike was sabotaged, causing his accident, and the people behind this incident are none other than club brother Clay Morrow and his wife and Jax’s mother Gemma. Tragedy and dark plans have always been present in Jax’s life, and over the years he has tried to detach himself from club life, only to become more and more deeply involved. It’s a tragedy that Jax grew up hating his father for being “weak”, and this misunderstanding led him to prove himself to be the strongest man and brother in the club. Jax may have grown up a lie, but his father’s death was real to him, a tragedy he didn’t have to inflict on his sons. Instead of trying to be the figure he wanted to be and working to change the future, Jax ultimately gave up.

It’s scandalous because Jax was so close to leaving club life with his sons. With a Mayhem mark on his back and brothers ready to let him get away with it, Jax’s time at SAMCRO was over anyway. He could have left with what was left of his family and started again somewhere else. In this way, he had given his sons the life Tara wanted. He would break the generational curse and end everything Clay and Gemma had started. The sad thing is that John Teller didn’t abandon his family like Jax had thought his father had; but because of the lies Jax thought it was better to leave his sons and have them hate him like he did his father instead of being there for his sons to make sure they don’t grow up not by repeating your mistakes. Jax’s death left a lot of loose ends, and it’s not as promising as he made it out to be.

Jax Teller’s death is pointless

Jax left SAMCRO in the hands of Chibs and Tig, entrusting them with carrying out his wishes to get SAMCRO out of dangerous illegitimate businesses. From what we will discover later in Mayans MCSAMCRO is still very involved in illegal trade. Things are better than when Clay was in charge, but SAMCRO is still deeply involved. It’s one thing to give the job to someone else and another to complete it. Jax’s death didn’t really give SAMCRO a brighter future or improve things the way he thought it would. Jax was the kind of leader the club needed to get out of illegitimate business. The best way to ensure that SAMCRO would be on the right track would be to follow through and take action to correct course when it needed to. Jax’s death certainly made that impossible.

From Sons of Anarchy concludedmany wondered if Jax had died in vain. I partly agree with this statement because Jax didn’t die for anyone else’s sake but for his own, even if it meant becoming the person he hates. It’s not really JT that Jax hates but the version of JT Jax grew up knowing. It’s a tragedy that, even though I tried everything not to become that person, Jax ends his chapter in SAMCRO as the person he grew up hating. His tragic end is truly self-inflicted, and it was not meant to end this way at all.

While Sons of Anarchy is as impactful and bloody as it should be, Jax’s ending is just too upsetting. This leaves viewers with no hope, nor Jax’s sons with any promise of a better future. This makes them grow up without their mother and father. Jax, of all people, should know that hatred only leads to bad decisions. Yet he let that motivate his sons. It was a horrible thing he did to his sons and the cruelest thing a father could do. The ending makes me wonder if Thomas and Abel would ever go to SAMCRO to look for answers and if one of them would join the club just to get to know their old man better.

How Disney Killed the Planned Sons of Anarchy Prequel

Sons of Anarchy almost received a second spinoff series, but unfortunately Disney’s purchase of Fox and their difficulties with its creator got in the way.

Like I said before, Jax didn’t die for anyone but himself. Sure, he would be freed from all the nightmares, regrets, bad decisions and trauma, but he would also leave all the responsibilities that were his on the shoulders of others. His death also has consequences, but it is not he who will suffer the consequences of his death, but those he loved. Having the series end with Jax dying is a terrible idea, and honestly, it shouldn’t end that way at all.

Jax Teller’s story might have a better ending

I wonder if Kurt Sutter was so determined to live out a Shakespearean tragedy that he lost sight of Jax as a character. It’s true that Jax has done a lot of irreparable things. He led the club deeper into dangerous situations and ventures they shouldn’t have bothered with. He killed his own mother and stepfather. He is not a person who believes in mercy, and his quest for revenge has led to the torture and death of many others. After Opie’s death in Sons of AnarchyJax went out of his way to make sure those who wronged him would suffer a worse fate, which says a lot about the kind of person he has become.

There’s no doubt that Jax is beyond redemption, but killing him on the way to his sons would honestly make for a much better ending instead of him letting go. I have no problem with the series ending with Jax’s death. With all the damage Jax caused, a happy ending just doesn’t fit, but letting Jax die the way he did breaks his character as a father. It makes me wonder if he really got that far after his quest for revenge. It seems to me that Jax made every decision consciously, knowing that everyone he punished was getting what they deserved. Even his mother, Gemma, deserved her fate a long time ago, just like Clay. In the world Jax lives in, he can always come back as a person and a father if he wants. It’s true that he lost almost everyone he cared about, including Tara, Opie and Gemma, but Jax still had his sons and those he calls brothers to live for.

Making Jax die the way he did shows that he’s giving up. It has no other deeper meanings. He fought all the wrong fights, venting his rage in all the wrong places, but the one thing he didn’t do was make amends and make the right decisions, fighting for those he it’s worth fighting for. For someone who spent seven seasons trying to be a better person and give his family a better future while being thrown back into the Last Generation feud, he deserves a better ending. By having Jax die by his own hands, the series shows no compassion or sympathy for his character.
