Prime Video has released a new image from Season 2 of Rings of Power, this time showing a different side of the feared Dark Lord.

The second season of the series will focus on the rise of Sauron. According to showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, this era of Tolkien’s mythology is central to the narrative. “If we could pick one reason to do this show and put it in this era, it would be that,” McKay commented in an interview with Empire.

Rise to darkness

From the very first moment, the creators compared Sauron to the likes of Walter White and Tony Soprano, hinting that he could be one of the greatest villains with a big character. McKay explains: “We talked about Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ and how Sauron has the potential to be a hero-villain in the main character. That’s a great story that hasn’t been told on screen.

In the first season, Sauron was hidden under the cloak of Halbrand. However, after being found, he takes on a new identity: the stylish elf Anathar. McKay said: “It was hidden in our history. Chances are, with the second season, viewers already know about the trick. “We know who he is and what he wants.”

What’s fun is seeing how the other characters fall into the web of intrigue. As the season progresses, we see the plan unravel and the evil fully revealed. McKay added, “All of our stories are starting to merge into one, and that story is how Sharon’s rise affects everyone and threatens the entire world.

The power of the rings

Charlie Vickers, who plays Sharon, expressed his excitement about this part of the story, “I’m really excited to get to this point, because it’s part of the canon of this era.” “You have Saron and Celebrimbor working together creating rings.”

Known for his cunning, Sharon always works to serve others in order to achieve his own goals. Just as Halbrand used Galadriel, his new form of Anatar was a ploy to influence Celebrimbor and force him to make all the rings he bought.

The rise of Sharon

The series is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Ring’, where great powers are created, kingdoms rise to glory and then fall to ruins, and unlikely heroes are challenged. This season shows Sauron, rejected by Galadriel, without an army or allies to rebuild his power and rely on his cunning to control the creation of the Rings of Power.

With suspense and renewed ambition, the second season plunges its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a dark storm, forcing them to find their place in a world on the brink of collapse. Friendships and loyalties are tested as kingdoms crumble and the forces of good fight to protect each other’s values.

Created by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, the second season premieres August 29 on Prime Video. Don’t miss this exciting series where the fate of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The Power of the Rings of Sharon

The return of the villain marks a turning point in the series. Banished by Galadriel, the Dark Lord must use his cunning to rebuild his power and master the creation of “The Rings of Power”, which allow him to control all the peoples of Middle-earth. The season promises a plot full of intrigue and strategy, showing how each hammer blow will shape the fate of the characters and the entire world.

The journey from the depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of Linden and the Isles of Númenor lets us discover how legacies are built and how they endure over time. Sauron’s resurrection touches every corner of the series, threatening to shroud everything in darkness.

An uncertain future

The second act of the series explores not only the rise of the Dark Lord, but how his actions affect every character from Elves and Dwarves to Men and Hobbits. As the heroes face their own fears and weaknesses in a world crumbling around them, the fight to maintain hope and unity becomes more challenging than ever.
