As the new season of Dragon House nears its premiere, the showrunner has said that it will feature new story types and styles.
The wait is over. The second season of Dragon House comes with promises of changes to the narrative and a fast pace that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. The internal conflict in House Targaryen intensifies, the fight for revenge and between the greens and the blacks to new levels of intensity.
A twist in narrative and rhythm
The new season premieres with its first episode, “Child for a Child,” on June 16 on Prime. This section will be crucial in setting the tone of the season, making it clear that events are happening quickly and continuously.
Speaking to Variety, showrunner Ryan Condall revealed that one of the most significant changes in this new season will be the pace of the story. “The first season should have told the story differently,” Condall commented. House of the Dragon focuses on generational trauma and how wounds can develop over decades of conflict. Alicent Hightower (played by Olivia Cooke) has a grudge against her former best friend Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), the heir to the Iron Throne. But after Prince Emund (Ewan Mitchell) is involved in the tragic death of Rhaenyra’s son Luke (Elliot Grihault) in the season one finale, war is inevitable.
“All the wounds are fresh,” Condall explained. “I think the momentum feels like momentum building. “The first season felt explosive because we were jumping between time periods, and the second season was like lighting a fuse in Episode 1 and watching it burn, it’s a little bit more explosive in certain places.”
Change of rhythm
Although the progress of the season has a steady pace, more events occur than fans are used to. The first season spanned ten years, showing how the characters matured and found their place in the world. Instead, the second season begins 10 days after the first season finale. Steve Toussaint explained that many important decisions had to be made in those 10 days, especially about the brutality between the Greens and the Blacks.
The first episode of the second season titled “Son to Son” will be broadcast live to the readers of the books. Luke’s death angers not only Rhanira, but her stepfather Damon (Matt Smith). The robber prince is personally revenged and promises to take something equally valuable from the greens as payment in a blood and cheese savage story. This class promises to be one of those loads that will pick up more fire as the season progresses.
