Ryan Reynolds talks about the failure of the first Deadpool movie, revealing that the production didn’t get much support from 20th Century Fox.

Although Disney gave Ryan Reynolds the necessary resources to make the version he wanted for Deadpool and Wolverine, the actor did not always have the support of the main studio, because 20th Century Fox did not believe in the big mercenary movie.

Ryan Reynolds and his commitment to Deadpool

In an interview with the New York Times, the legendary actor revealed that he paid the original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick out of pocket to be on set.

“When Deadpool was finally given the green light, no one in me thought it would beat him. I even took a pay cut to get the film back to the screen: My co-stars Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wouldn’t let me produce it, so I took what little salary I had left and paid them to do it. Arrange with me to form a writers’ room.

“This was a lesson in many ways. I think one of the greatest enemies of creativity is excess time and money, and that film had neither time nor money. It really encouraged him to focus on a show, something that’s a little harder to do in a comic book movie. I was so immersed in every micro detail that I hadn’t felt this way in a long time. “I remember wanting to feel that more in anything, not just Deadpool.”

Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters on July 25.
