The long-awaited Deadpool and Wolverine crossover in the MCU won’t involve Logan speaking to the public, and we’ll tell you why.
The next Deadpool and Wolverine movie promises to make one of fans’ most cherished dreams come true: seeing these iconic characters together on the big screen. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who play Deadpool and Wolverine respectively, along with director Sean Levy, revealed details of how they will handle the story without affecting the legacy of Logan, the character Jackman said goodbye to forever.
A meeting was awaited for decades.
Ever since X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where we saw a less satisfying version of the interaction between Deadpool and Wolverine, fans have been patiently waiting for a better adaptation of this dynamic duo. Now, Marvel Studios is responsible for keeping expectations alive by promising one of the most exciting and exciting collaborations in the MCU.
The main challenge is continuity. Logan left an indelible mark by portraying Wolverine’s death with emotion and passion. It’s a difficult task to restore the character without undoing that shocking ending. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Reynolds and Levy talked about how they plan to deal with this situation.
Protecting Logan’s legacy
Reynolds explains, “Initially, we had a very vague idea of how we were going to bring back Wolverine in ways that didn’t connect or interfere with Logan and his legacy. Kevin [Feige]”Shawn, Hugh and I were very concerned.”
“Logan’s legacy as a film and a character means a lot to Hugh, but it means a lot to Ryan, Kevin and me,” Levy added. Is there a sense of that heritage in the film? The answer is yes. And this is another way to protect it.
In order to avoid conflicts with the events of Logan, the Wolverine we see in the movie is expected to be different from another universe in many versions. This 2017 film allows them to explore new stories and dynamics without slowing down.
Why doesn’t Logan break the fourth wall?
Despite Deadpool’s irreverent nature, Logan doesn’t go that route. Reynolds, Jackman and Levy explained why:
Levy comments: “A lot of actors come into a Deadpool movie and think they can talk to the camera and break the fourth wall. But here’s a system that captures Deadpool’s unique tone.
Chimichangas for one
“There are rules,” Reynolds added. Very special rules. If everyone, or even anyone else, knows about the fourth wall or any meta aspect, it lowers the stakes in the film. Deadpool is the only character with that ability. “If everyone did it, you wouldn’t be so invested in this character.”
“I made the same mistake on the first day,” Jackman jokingly recalls. I made the suggestion and he said, ‘Yes… [hace una mueca].
Reynolds concludes: “It always feels like a joke when I explain that I need people to invest as much as possible in the other characters, but Deadpool is just an unreliable narrator.”
Jackman concludes with a smile: “Ryan beautifully portrays Deadpool’s mind as a half-baked omelette.” So whatever I’m doing—talking to the camera, talking to Wolverine—I have to put up with someone else’s nonsense. But it’s just another excuse to punch him in the face.
The arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine
Combining Deadpool and Wolverine into one movie is unprecedented in the MCU. The actors made it clear that despite the jokes and actions, they will respect the tone and story that fans have loved since Logan.
This approach allows Wolverine’s character to clearly separate himself from Deadpool’s chaotic, fourth-wall-breaking style and maintain his seriousness and depth. Fans can be sure to see a genuine and dignified interaction between these two heroes without losing what made Logan such a memorable send-off.
Set to premiere on July 26, Deadpool and Wolverine promises to not only entertain, but also celebrate the legacy of these iconic characters.
