GODS, the series that will change the Marvel cosmology like never before, finally arrives in Spain thanks to Panini Comics.

Due to the influence of UCM, many people are well aware of Celestial, Eternal, Galactus or Living Court, Marvel’s creatures and concepts, which years ago were completely unknown to the masses. But what is seen in serials and movies is nothing more than a mere drop in the ocean of comedy.

The cosmology and mythology of Marvel Comics is vast and rich, so vast that a few YouTube summary videos aren’t enough to cover it all. It’s something that’s evolved over 85 years and continues to expand today. One person who knows about restructuring at Marvel is Jonathan Hickman, who brought the X-Men into a new era. After meeting the mutants, the scriptwriter of Secret Wars is the first part of the collection that aims to change something sublime and divine in the GODS series Panini Comics.

The magic and science of the gods

It is very difficult to make a summary of this first edition, among other things, due to the number of concepts, ideas and situations. We can talk about the endless battle between the entity that rules everything that is absolutely magical and strange, and the natural order of everything, the entity that makes everything completely scientific. Their avatar representing the Powers, Winn, the perfect protagonist of this issue, happens to be married to someone who represents his enemy, Aiko Maki, a member of the 100 Centivar, servants of the natural order of all things. As you can imagine, the relationship between these two is somewhat strange.

But the main issue is different. Doctor Strange summons the creatures that represent magic and science in Marvel for an event that affects all reality and all unimaginable universes. A very big and terrible disaster requires everyone’s help. From here we have a great amount of action at a frenetic pace.

As usual with Hickman, the sheer number of concepts he introduces can leave you feeling like you don’t understand anything, although there is enough information to get a new reader started. Even so, the first pages may cost a little because of the information, which is not small. Luckily this doesn’t last long and we end up with a pretty fun comic with a deep background about good and evil. The conflict between Iko and Winn is very interesting, representing the conflict between magic and science.

Hickman, has the opportunity to shape the magic and cosmology of Marvel. But now it seems that he has introduced another concept but it has not changed anything or made any difference. The main character should stand out. Winn is a character with very little charm and a lot of personality. In addition to its apparent indifference, it will delight many readers.

A picture worthy of the gods

When promoting the series, Marvel always puts Hickman’s name first. Which makes sense, considering one of the publishing house’s biggest authors in recent years. But the real stars in this first edition are the artist, Valerio Shiti and the colorist Marte Gracia. It’s thanks to these two great artists that most comics are fun to read. Skitty does a great job designing the characters as well as drawing the amazing magical environments. To represent magic and the paranormal, Gracia uses very beautiful colors. Combine the work of the two and you get something as funny as GODS.

The following issues are drawn and colored by Schiti and Gracia, a work that is admirable and prompts you to keep reading, apart from Hickman’s work.

GODS 1 Panini Comics Edition.

Panini brings us the first issue of GODS in its usual format for the latest from Marvel, a staple. What is surprising about this case is that we are looking at a 64-page staple at a discounted price of €3.50, 46% cheaper than the publisher’s staple of the same size. Also, at the end of Julian M. Clemente, we have a small article. The quality of the paper is very good, the same as the rest of the main things published by the publisher.

GODS 1 is a relatively easy read and a very entertaining volume full of action that the reader will love. Hickman has yet to revolutionize Marvel much, although he does introduce some interesting concepts and ideas, not to mention a very interesting and charismatic protagonist, Winn. The most famous thing in the work is the visual part of Valerio Schati and Marte Gracia. The picture and the color are very high quality that raise the level of this comic. You’ll want to know what this first issue will do with the Marvel Comics cosmology.
