After bringing vampire Damon Salvatore to life in the hit TV series The Vampire Diariesactor Ian Somerhalder later starred in a season of the Netflix vampire series V Wars. The short-lived series marked his final acting role, with Somerhalder retiring after its cancellation to focus on other endeavors.
At the Environmental Media Association awards gala in October, Somerhalder spoke with People about his current life with his wife Nikki Reed, who also appeared in V Wars. Somerhalder reiterated that he has no current plans to revisit his acting career, feeling that it is more than likely “in the rearview mirror” of his life. However, the former actor also said that he had regained the rights to V Warshinting that there could be a potential continuation that he would be a part of. The biggest problem, as Somerhalder also explained, is that her life with Reed is so busy that it’s hard for the couple to imagine when there will be time to work on a TV show.

Somerhalder and Reed have a lot in common. Before V WarsReed also became famous for her role in a popular vampire franchise, playing Rosalie Hale in The Twilight Saga. She also put her acting work aside after her appearance in V Wars. Reed noted that she hasn’t officially closed the door on the idea of doing more acting work one day, but that it doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.

V Wars was a short-lived series
V Wars debuted on Netflix in 2019 and was canceled three months later. The series is based on the original comic book by Jonathan Maberry and tells the story of a conflict between humans and vampires compounded by a deadly epidemic. Somerhalder starred alongside Adrian Holmes, Laura Vandervoort and Kimberly-Sue Murray.
“August 19 marks five years since I was professionally in front of a camera as an actor/producer,” Somerhalder also told People earlier this year about his retirement. “I moved away from it after V Wars to build these companies, launch films like Kiss the ground, Common groundAnd Ground swell and raise my children. I remember sitting with my management talking about it and saying, “Hey, this is the only thing I’ve ever known that has sustained my family, and I’m walking away from it.” At that kind of peak, it could have disappeared. and I’ve done anything, but these partnerships mean much more to me.
